Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

I'm 72 and have rheumatoid arthritis. I wear both the Altra trail runners and the road runners. Superb shoe for troubled feet. No break in needed, ever, and the comfort is unsurpassed. Put these shoes on this morning straight out of the box and they are perfect for work as an RN. Wear an 11.5 wide in women's, so find the men's shoe a better fit (10,5) and adequate width and height of toe box to accommodate merino wool socks. I live in these shoes, even though my running days are past.
this has to be the worst shoes I've ever had. after WALKING around at work (teacher) my foot swelled and I couldn't put pressure on it. The shoes are tight, the forefoot area is not wide like other Altra's. I have low volume feet, so for me to say its tight, ITS TIGHT. I thought I need to break them in and stretch it out a bit but OMG I could not put any pressure on. after a weekend of not wearing these shoes my foot was back to normal. seriously even old shoes that's 2 sizes too big for me was more comfortable. Also the Guide rails to prevent pronation digs right into the inside of my feet. Its HORRIBLE!
Have 400 miles on my first pair. They are lightweight and comfortable yet hold together well. I am working on my second pair now.
Altra's quality really sucks. I keep returning to Altra because of their toebox. Each time I try a different model hoping that that model is better than the previous or they have improved the quality of their shoes. This was my third and last pair. The back of the inside of the shoe is the first thing to go. Behind it is a hard shell that rubs on the back of your foot. No more.
This is my 10th pair of Altras and what has me coming back has been the wide toe box. The company seems to be reducing that toe box and I hope they don’t.
These are certainly not good. The fit is definitely not as good as the Paradigm. the heal is tight. feels like a narrow heal fit starting from the mid foot. the narrow fit cause the inside of my feet to step down on the guiding midsole. Not very comfortable. the shoe insert comparatively not as thick as the Paradigm. I defiantly would not recommend these shoes
The tread starting coming off of the sole after only a few weeks. Not worth the money if you ask me.
Second pair of 7s, fourth pair of provisions. Just replacing due to normal mileage, not any wear issues, like other reviews have mentioned. Had to size up from the 6s because the mesh on the 7 seems stiffer and doesn't have as much give. I've only ever worn men's altras because it's hard to find W11+ and even harder to find them on sale.
Another good shoe by Altra. Good medium side support if running on uneven surfaces. Almost felt firm enough for trail running.
Tried these but didn't keep. Fit was okay and according to size, but not crazy about the extra large toe box in front.
