Good for long walks
Wore in my new shoes yesterday. Up to now, standing for six hours has brought no discomfort. The walk has been entirely smooth, without any problems. This is the first occasion I've managed to wear in a pair of shoes without encountering any issues.
The is the best Altra Torin since the 4.5 Plush.
This is the best Altra Torin since the 4.5 Plush...and the GTX model has been great at helping keep the heat in during these cold winter months. Typically during the winter, I have been running with toe warmers and hot sockees. I bought the Torin 8 GTX the day they were available and have had no need for the hot sockees...and only using toe warmers on the coldest days. The show is very comfortable and holding up well!!!
pe teacher
so far no complaints beyond happy to have a road shoe that's water proof
Buyer beware
These shoes are quite dangerous—they have a very stiff tab that presses into you Achilles tendon. After several hours walking I compressed a nerve and lost feeling on the side of my foot for several days. I can also see someone seriously damaging their Achilles tendon.
Unfortunate fit
Made it a quarter mile before getting terrible blisters on my heels.
Great Update!
Outstanding update! I own 4 pairs of the 7s and saw no reason to buy the 8s. Doing a GTX version is smart as it gave me a reason and now considering modernizing my fleet.
Great in wet mornings.
Most mornings I walk 3 to 5 miles in open spaces behind my home. These shoes not only don't bother my bunion, but keep my feet dry in wet grass on a foggy morning in the moors. I bought them in on April 16 and was so pleased that I bought another pair (without GORE TEX) for around the house and everyday.
Quality control is not Altra's strength!
Altra is still all over the place with their shoes!! First of all, the Torin 7 was a great shoe, the Torin 8, not so much. The shoe is much firmer and the inner material around the heal has caused blisters!!! I NEVER GET BLISTERS!!! Also would like to see the GTX offered in a larger width, the goretex membrane doesn't give any wiggle room and the GTX feels tighter than the regular T8. Man I really feel like this shoe company is on the edge of greatness, but always seems to come up short.
Runs small
I've been waiting for Altra to produce a waterproof street shoe so I ordered these as soon as I saw them. I order size 13, the size I have worn in more than a dozen Altra shoes. These shoes run smaller than the others and are barely long enough for me. I'm sure a 14 would be too big, so I am keeping them. I recommend people order a half size larger than they ordinarily do.
