I wore the Torin 8's as my everyday running shoe before these. I was sort of meh about them. These shoes feel like a major upgrade in every way. They feel a lot more responsive due to the new Vibram outsole. The tongue is more substantial. The laces are no longer made of a material that seems designed to come untied (they stay tied with a single knot!). They are much more comfortable and just enjoyable to run in. They look so much more sharp than the 8's with better colors and design. Other than that the most important things that are the reason I stayed with this brand remain the same - zero drop with a lot of cushioning, and wide toe box. These feel like premium shoes compared to the last version and I am actually enjoying putting them on and running in them.
I have started to enjoy running outside and decided to train for a marathon. I have had these shoes a few weeks now and I love them. I don't have a lot of experience to compare these to other shoes for running, however they are are light and comfortable. I have been running in them 4-5 times a week as a daily runner and they are superb. Feel cushy enough in my 5-7 mile days so far. The mid foot area is tighter then i would expect but feels great as my foot doesn't slip while still leaving room for my toes to spread out. I have run in 90+ degree weather here in NC and I have never thought about my feet feeling hot. The soles feel grippy. I love them and will eventually get another par.
These just arrived. I have taken a picture of them next to the same size in my Timp 6. A very different fit, wider with a bend at the toe that doesn’t work for me.
My parents recently bought this shoe for me (June 2026) and after around ~20ish miles the sole and base seem to be coming apart. The only reason we in tally purchased these shoes was for my first real running shoes and had seen really positive reviews about them online; however, the quality on the pair I've recently received is just not expectable for the price. Considering that it's only been about 1 whole month since I've gotten these shoes and used them for recreational running I expected the life expectancy to be longer. I otherwise liked the fit and performance, which makes the early fall apart even more frustrating. I hope the company stands behind its product and helps resolve what appears to be a quality-control issue with this pair.
I've been wearing Torin since Torin 3 with no issues. When they moved to Standard and Wide (Original) I need Original. Wide is all I can wear in any shoe. Unfortunately this Torin is not wide. It is so snug I had to check the box and the shoes, then checked my order and checked the box and shoes again. They say Wide but they are not for people with truly wide feet. Couple this with another ridiculous tongue that bunches and they are headed back to Altra. You would think after the Torin 5 tongue debacle they would have noticed how hard it is to get this shoe on with the tongue in proper position. On the bright side the Vibram addition is super sweet! All in all I'm disappointed that I have to find a new shoe after years of being pretty happy.
Great store with great options. Very friendly staff.
I have been wearing the Torin 8 since they came out and have become very comfortable with their fit. So, I was excited to see what LITTLE tweaks Altra would make to improve the shoe. As I have come to learn, Altra does not make little tweaks, they just redesign the whole shoe. Unfortunately, this forces the user to try other models or go somewhere else. But, in this case they got it right. The Torin 9 reminds me of the Torin 4s that I loved so much. I am happy we have come full circle. Can we please not go around again?
Picked these up from my favorite local shop Louisiana Running and Walking Company. Initial fit a and feel was excellent, size 12, which indeed means these run very slightly small. Occasionally I can fit in an 11. 5. Very very springy midsole. After walking a couple laps around the block I decided to risk it a go for a long run on Sunday morning, 17. 6 miles later after my Tour de New Orleans, I am only more impressed. After a decade long love affair with Altra, these may indeed be my favorite Altras to date.
Torin 9 leaps and bounds better than predecessor! This is a totally different shoe! Laces actually stay tied with a single knot! Mesh breathes better! Midsole is bouncier and appears more durable! The outsole is Vibram rubber and feels grippier, thicker and better traction on pavement! I've had 4 pairs of the Torin 8s and they all wore out very fast, even alternating them didn't extend each shoe past 3-4 months! Will order another pair after putting 60-70 miles on the pair I bought 2 weeks ago.
Had to size-up a half size, but otherwise great as always. I've had nearly every version of the Torins since the 3 or 4. With only a couple exceptions, they've always been fantastic zero drop, wide toe box shoes. Every generation before the 9s, I wore size 11.5. For the 9s, like everyone is noticing, they're a bit smaller. I don't have particularly wide feet, but my toes felt cramped both in length and size of toe box in 11.5. In 12s, they fit seemingly perfectly for me.
