Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

A pleasant surprise

Received free product

Big fan of this shoe. I wasn’t too sure what to expect as I have not owned a pair of Altras before, but I came away very impressed. Out of the box this shoe was ready to run. The fit was perfect and a roomy toe box greeted my Neanderthal feet. The Torin 7 wrapped around my foot comfortably and I was particularly impressed with the heel lockdown and comfort. Sometimes I can experience some heel discomfort and hot spots but the flared heel cup was nice and held up over several pavements runs as well as some light hiking. The low heel drop was something I don’t typically run on and yet it felt extremely comfortable and natural. Now for the best part - the cushion in the Torin 7 felt amazing underfoot without feeling too bulky. They are VERY comfortable. So far, it has been a joy to run on and I anticipate these shoes holding up well over time. As a first time Altra runner, I was a huge fan of the Torin 7 I will be exploring their line again in the near future.

OK shoes; disappointed by lack of durability

I purchased a pair of these at the very end of Dec 2023 and used for road running in mild winter and spring weather. Since the shoes did last to about the 300-mile mark, I feel that three stars is a fair rating . The shoes had to be replaced after about four and a half months and 300 to 350 miles due to the upper starting to fall apart where the toes flex and the midsole starting to flake/crumble where it joins the upper. At this price point, even if the foam is impacted from mileage, I'd like to think that the shoes would remain in one piece if I tried to run with them for an extra week or two.

Light and comfortable Running Shoes

Received free product

Shoes are very comfortable and have a wide base for toes to feel like they can provide a stable base on rough terrain/road areas. The size ordered was a Men's 10 and they did fit but were a bit snug compared to other size 10 shoes. They don't feel like my toes are being squashed but not as much room as other shoes which means my feet are not sliding around in these shoes, nor are they too tight where they would rub and cause blisters. Plenty of grip from the tread on the bottom of the shoes give traction in dry/wet conditions.

Comfortable but poor quality

Comfortable but poor quality. After +/- 25 miles of running, both shoes (on both sides of the foot) are experiencing a slight tear in the cloth material. I don't expect these shoes to last much longer. It's a shame because they've very comfortable, but I don't want to spend $140 on a pair of shoes that will only last 2-3 months.

Road shoe for fans of the Lone Peak

Received free product

Great road running shoe for fans of the Altra Lone Peak. I have been using the Torin 7 for the last two weeks on a mixture of paved and gravel trails during my lunch runs. The shoes seem incredibly light and speedy especially coming from a trail shoe. The shoe provides adequate cushing for pounding out miles on pavement while still remaining stable and supportive enough to use for light trails. Like all Altra products I love the wide toe box , I have a wide and high arched foot. The Torin fits true to size, I ordered a 9.5. I generally wear a size 10 for longer duration trail runs but the 9.5 is great for the 5-10k range. It took me until my third run to really love the shoe, the break in process wasn't terrible but the fit seemed slightly off for the first two runs. The shoe seems to be slightly narrower than the Altra Lone Peaks I am used too. Overall a great shoe that I will continue to use for low milage paved runs

Cushioned and Vented to the MAX

Received free product

PROS: My feet get sweaty when I run long distances so I appreciated the great ventilation in this shoe. The foam/cushioning remains bouncy even after longer runs while my heel was secured and didn't slip out. The toe box is Altra-esque in its wideness. The tongue stays in place and is nice and soft. The shoe is true to size. The midfoot of the sole is also substantially wider compared to other non-wide running shoes. This is my favorite colorway Altra has come out with - not too many colors but still bright! CONS: Although the toe box is wide, it could definitely have been wider. I would also have appreciated if the toe box had more volume (height). I also wish the laces were longer (but I am rarely satisfied with lace lengths). Also, the stack height is high, so when running on crushed limestone I did feel like my chances of rolling my ankle increased. On flat pavement there's a definite loss of road feel because of the cushioning. Overall, I'd say this is a good zero drop running shoe released by Altra, and a good introductory zero drop shoe for newcomers. Definitely a go for people who are looking for that high cushion feel without a heavy feel. Personally, it had too much cushioning for my liking.

Exceptional fit & Form, Dissapointing Durability

Comfortable for easy running. But the upper got torn (medial side) from the sole at 250 mi. Used for 100 mi more until tears too big. Would recommend if $60 or less. Upper is also a sweat SPONGE.

Nice updates, except where ankle meets shoe

As others have noted, there are significant changes from the Torin 6 to the 7, most of which, in my opinion, improve the shoe. The sole is stiffer and the materials look to be more long lasting. I did like the 6 a lot, but the sole did wear through quickly as did in the mesh over the toe box. My only problem with the shoe is that on my left foot, the upper digs into my ankle. I have a slightly narrow foot, and my foot was pleasantly snug, but I could not handle the ankle pain. I ended up buying the Lone Peak 7, which is cut wider, even in the non wide, but I do not have problems with the ankle. I still wish Altra, would lower the ankle height just a bit on all of their shoes because I do feel it, as do others from what I’ve read.

Try them on if they’re your first pair

Received free product

This is my first pair from this brand, and my first pair of zero-drop running shoes. My recommendation is to try them on in the store, as the sizing and feel are unique. That said, I’ve been happy with these. They seem to be well made, and I like the colors.

Quality issues with this model

Really liked the Montblanc style and tried this style to try a running shoe. Love the Montblanc but they are a trail shoe and was looking for more running on the road. These sneakers felt great and I was wearing them daily, not for running yet. In less than a month part of the soles on one of the sneakers became separated and I was walking with this flopping about. I was really disappointed because I hadn’t actually started running yet. I don’t know if this is an overall quality issue or just with this style. Will return to REI and try same style and hope it’s not going to happen again.
