easy to read in dim light
I have had this watch for about 3 weeks now. I can compare it to the original instinct and the newer 2x. The readout seems easiest to see in dim light. It is easy to use with the same type learning curve as the other instincts. More battery life than the original. Gives me a morning report (like the 2x). Customizing the data screens is wonderful and it locks on satellites nicely. Feels noticeably lighter and smaller than the 2x. I like it a lot and will use it mainly for day hikes in the backcountry on vague trails and for bushwhacking....... For longer trips I will use the 2x and the original instinct is now my backup to this one. Very nice there Garmin!........
Amazing Battery Life & Great Visibility
I have had a lot of Garmins including the Instinct, Venu 2, Indtinct 2, 955 Solar and Fenix. This blows all of them away. I have never wrote a review for any of the Garmin watches so this is my first. It is a Fenix 7x on steroids. It has a 34 day battery life. I took this off the charger over 12 hours ago and it just now went down 98 percent and that was after a gps activity. It is lighter than the Fenix 7x if you use the included nylon band. You also get an extra silicone band in the box and the flashlight is probably twice as bright as the Fenix 7x. For only $100 more than the Fenix 7x you get a brighter flashlight, 6 more days of battery life and an extra nylon band. It’s a no brainer. I can’t even feel it on my wrist while using the nylon band. Since the screen is 51mm I can see the data without squinting like on the Instinct series.

Very impressed with this watch. A keeper!
I am switching from a ProTrek, which I like many things about it. The solar capability was fantastic. I never had to worry about the battery life. Gratefully, I can't believe the battery life on this watch - the Instinct 2. It's amazing. For example, right now, I have 6 days left. I purchased it before Christmas and haven't charged it yet. It's now the 12th of January. So, over 3 weeks, with 6 days left. AMAZING! Now, I haven't done a lot of GPS activities, which evidently sucks the battery life. Those will come in time. What I appreciate a lot about this watch is the feel - I often forget it's even on my wrist. The color, it's not flashy or obnoxious. The information it provides, like weather, battery life, sunrise and sunset. Barometric pressure, elevation, weather, and a compass! All sweet. Besides that, however, it gives me notifications from my phone - texts and phones call info. It will include email info if I want. And, of course, the GPS is one of the best. So is the activity tracking - no matter what sport, indoor or outdoor, with track me and track back features to help me stay on course, very important in the mountains or woods. Can't say enough about this watch. I am selling my S G 6 classic watch. Even though it has a much better screen. Which is why I only giving the rating, 4 stars instead of 5 stars. A funny side not about ratings - why give me the option of 5 stars, if you don't want less? The screen on this watch, which is supposed to be better on the Garmin Instinct 2x, is sometimes less than desirable. Most of the time, spot-on. Sometimes, not so much. You can turn on the backlight to make it better or reverse the screen colors. But it's monochrome.
Thank you for your review.
Awesome Watch
I've been wearing this watch everyday for about a month. And I love it. I love the display, granted it's not as "flashy" as some of the other options. Everything is very easy to see, I love that the heart rate is constantly monitoring and I love the layout of the home page. The display is easy to see in any level of brightness. I've used the running, stair master, pickleball, and snowboarding activities. I didn't realize the amount of information it would gather while doing certain activities, which was a pleasant surprise. I needed a tough watch for my job, anxious to see how well this watch holds up.
Thank you for your review.
Best Smart Watch for the Budget.
I had the Forerunner 735XT. The Instinct 2 is a way more advance watch. I love the HRV data and sleep data. Great watch to monitor your recovery. I tried the Whoop band for a month and it was nice to see all the data but it was not worth the monthly subscription. This watch is easy to use, battery life is excellent and I can track the sports that matter to me. The only thing I wish this watch could do is to track my naps. They should add NAPS as another activity to track. Overall is great watch for the price and it looks awesome. I’ve been asked a few times what kind of watch Im wearing. #ineednaps

Most useful watch I've ever had!
This watch is great. I love the amount of features. I love the tracking of both elevation and steps. I get a lot more exercise at work than I thought. I love the sleep monitor. Apparently I get more good sleep than most of my coworkers. I love the heart rate monitor that allows me to practice breathing and relaxing techniques to actively lower my heart rate. I only wish there were an option to track my ketone levels. That would be an awesome addition if someone could make that happen. Lastly, I love the changeable faces. I installed a free one that is amazing, and I can change what is visible as I change my interests. 5 stars.
Excellent Features
I had the watch for about two weeks and I really like everything it can do.
Great watch with great features
I wanted a watch that would help me track my fitness, sleep and overall health without worrying about babying it with my rugged activities. I wear this watch with everything. Camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, dirt bike riding, working on my vehicles and household chores. The watch is super durable and has excellent sensors. The heart rate monitor is much improved over my five year old Garmin. The pulse oximeter is a pleasant surprise. I really like the software features of the watch too. For instance body battery and training readiness. The outdoor features such as the altimeter, GPS, weather and sunrise/sunset are super helpful also.
Phenomenal Longevity
Bought this before a deployment so I wouldn't break my *unnamed-sounds-like-capple* watch. The battery life makes you almost forget to pack your charging cable (don't do that). My best was 13 days without a charge, about 7 when I was logging workouts and runs consistently. I wasn't careful with this bad boy either, constantly got wet, 120+ degree heat, smashed in door frames, etc. Still works like day one 4 years later. Only downside is the face size. I didn't realize there's a smaller version available at the time I bought it, personal preference. This is now my back up for the other Garmin I bought to rid me of the *capple* lifestyle.
Great watch for hiking!
I love this watch! I had a Samsung watch that had a beautiful display and lots of features -- one of which is that I had to charge it every day. Even with almost daily hikes, the Instinct 2 goes for two weeks before it needs charging. It doesn't have a fancy color display or a touch screen, but I don't care, it has a great GPS, a good enough display, integrates seamlessly with Strava, and long battery life. The UI takes a little getting used to, but I highly recommend this watch if you want to track your activities. I highly recommend it!
