Very thick - these are true heavyweight socks! Be advised they won’t fit in tight boots. Very Warm. Quality wool blend with high merino content (68%). I’ve had other wool blend socks and still get moist feet due to the low/poor merino content. These things do an excellent job at regulating temp and keeping moisture away from the skin. Great winter socks! My only suggestion is for tighter elastic around the arch and ankle. I have narrow feet and skinny ankles so tighter would be more ideal for people like me. But for people with wider feet and wider ankles these would be great.
I was thrilled to snag these socks at a sale price under $7 per pair! I initially ordered a medium, but with my size 10 feet, I was a bit concerned about the fit. Turns out, they were absolutely perfect! The cushioning is fantastic, and I'm extremely happy with my purchase.
Thanks to REI, I've developed an obsession with Woolrich Big Woolly socks. I've purchased several pairs, and they feel so good on my flat feet with fallen arches, are so soft and supportive, that I wear them more or less year-round. The only time these ever felt uncomfortable was during the handful of triple-digit days we had this summer; then I reverted back to thin cotton socks, but only for as long as I needed to. Generally, the Woollies are perfect in every Pacific NW season. And the Joya Night colors (blue with purple) are beautiful.
Wonderful socks. I wear them all year round. Warm in winter, cool in summer. Excellent thickness and keep feet fresh. Whether working as nurse or farming, camping, traveling; these are spectacular. (Keep your feet cozy at night, too!). No sweat, no odor, no blisters, no burning, no hot or cold feet. Wool is the best and merino is even better. Thank you sheep!
Thick with tones of padding. Super warm. The only gripe is that these socks are crazy wide. If you have narrow to medium feet you'll be swimming in them. I will try washing them in hot water and see if they'll shrink.
It was pretty much instant love from the moment I slipped these on my feet and tootled around my hardwood floors in them. So soft and comforting. Not itchy at all. Roomy, very easy on/off. I've owned a Woolrich vest for years, but this was my first experience with their socks. Absolutely first-rate!! They also feel good when I have my Puma sneakers on.
On the REI website it says this pair of socks is advertised as 79% Merino wool. I ordered these socks online based on their advertised wool content. When I got them, the label said 68% wool 31% Nylon and 1% Lycra.
Wore them with boots on a very cold night it after I got them. Kept feet warm.
I love these socks. Practically everywhere you're going at my place, you're going up, down, or across a steep slope. I've worn these with Keen hiking boots which are almost like running shoes, and with old LL Bean Cresta hikers which are rough and tumble inside and out, and I've never had a hot spot, or blister. I've worn them in rocky woods on May mornings when it was 22 degrees and up and down ladders on June afternoons in the 80s, and my feet were the one part of me that were reliably comfortable. The pleasant, muted color is a bonus.
So warm and thick! I don't need to double up my socks to keep my feet warm on hikes or long walks with these
