I have been using wool socks from Smart wool, darn tough and REI brand for decades. Currently in 2026, i think Smartwool is the best. Quality construction, fine threads with a tight weave. My darn tough socks are getting some loose threads in the ankle portion. My smart wool socks just don’t do that REI socks, are a looser more airy weave, and good at their price point. Smart wool socks have gotten a lot better in the last 20 years.

These socks protect my feet from blisters and hotspots. Very comfortable even on a hot hike. They seem durable--I've had a pair for 3+ years & it still fits well with no fraying.

No complaints.
After using them for daily 3-4 mile hikes in the fall for 3 weeks I'm impressed. Warm but not too warm. Good padding but not too thick. Lets see how they last but as of now they are my go to short hike and cool weather sock.
