Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.
Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:
Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.
Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.
Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

I just received. Initial quality out-of-box is very poor. I can see where they used too much glue, the plastic trim on the shows is already coming loose around the bottom of the tongue. They are very comfortable, but already falling apart before I even put them on. I hope they improve their manufacturing quality so I can buy another pair in the future.

I'm a trainer and was hoping this shoes would perform accordingly. Unfortunately it does not. The soles are essentially wedges, the upper is basically falling apart . Unfortunately not worth the price.

Painful tongue; thick and rough stich line on the tongue and placement of shoestring eyelets creates uncomfortable pressure points on the top of the foot. Glue spots show through the rubber support strips making the overall design look rushed and cheap. The only highlight is the excellent traction pattern on the bottom. However, the thick sole also makes this shoe way too heavy for dynamic gym training and feels taller than it looks. I expected simple and adaptable, and was very disappointed. I've owned just about every shoe across the Altra line-up; this was the worst, based on both comfort and look. The Altra team just didn't deliver as advertised on this one.
Tongue stitching and lace eyelets creates uncomfortable pressure points on the top of the shoe. Rubber eyelets do not allow shoestring movement, causing uneven pressure as you workout (the front lace tends to tighten while the rear looses). The glued on rubber supports look cheap and the glue shows through the design. Additionally, they do not seem to create any support during lateral movement or complex lifts. However, the tread design on the sole is outstanding and creates flawless grip on every in-door surface that I use it on. Overall, I had huge expectations and was let down. The shoe is heavy, feels tall, and has the worst upper I have ever experienced (my foot). See photos for reference.
Grear barefoot feel, its just sad that the material wears so fast for the amount spent. For reference I've owned these since the end of August 2023. Posting this Oct 22, 2023. I dont wear them dialy, and i take great care of my shoes.
This is my daily shoe and is very comfortable. The shoe is terrible quality, the sole was starting to peel off a little over a month in, and the mesh is wearing on the sides. Very unhappy with it.
Thank you for reaching out to us regarding your feedback on the Men's LP Alpine. One of our Expert Agents has emailed you regarding this and would love the opportunity to assist you. We look forward to hearing from you!
I love these shoes! I use them for Burn Boot Camp 5-6 times a week. I am a woman who wears a 10.5 in Altra and a Men's 9 fits me just right. I chose the mens as the womens didnt have my size available and I am partial to all black shoes. I love my other Altra trail running shoes so these seemed to be the answer when looking for proper gym shoes. They have a lower arch like I need but remain supportive and provide the grip I need to perform well. Very lightweight but sturdy, and the wide toe box allows a lot of movement of my toes. Can't recommend these enough!
Painful tongue; cheap stich line on the tongue creates a painful pressure point effect on the top of the shoe making a good fit impossible. Glue spots show through the cheaply executed rubber support strips. The overall design seems like a fast half-hearted money grab. The only highlight is that the sole is excellent and seems perfect for any workout. I was expecting a simple and adaptable gym shoe; this not it and especially not for $130.
I really liked these shoes when I got them, they fit my foot shape great. I walk my dog 2 miles a day in asphalt roads, after 120 miles/ 2 months of walking and some daily wear in the weekends, the tread had worn down. After 200 miles the upper tore by the left big toe. I would love to see a more durable walking shoe, that could handle daily walking for more than 2 months. I've had at least 5 pair of Altra shoes prior to this and they all made it past the 6 month mark. These shoes are nice and airy on hot days. It's almost like you're not wearing a shoe.
I wear these every day and they're the best barefoot style you can get, except...if you made it out of more durable materials and made it feel a little less flimsy, and addressed the cloth on top and bottom rubber wearing out too fast, this could be the perfect shoe. I'm on my feet 8 hours a day at a PT clinic and my feet always feel good because of these shoes. They're my go to for every day use, comfort, and when I'm working out. I just wish their life span was longer!
