Both lights are bright, but mounts are sub par
Both lights themselves are fine and seem to be of relatively good quality. The mounts, however, are pathetic. The front/white light doesn’t not fit securely on the handle bar of my Giant Escape 3 (standard handlebar size). The beam therefore is constantly drifting upward or downward. The little clip for the back-facing red light doesn’t click into place, so it slips out of its mount easily. This happened to me once on La Ciénaga and the poor little light almost went down a sewer drain. Dangerous in the middle of traffic! I would love to recommend these lights, but for the price, their mounts should at least do the bare minimum.
Stopped working After 41 days of use.
I used this light 41 times, on 41 mornings. My commute is 35 minutes but it's only dark in the mornings. So I can say with confidence this light was used for 20 odd hours, and charged 5 or 6 times. Then? It just stopped working. Won't charge. Won't turn on. Nothing. This seems to be a common problem as mentioned in many other reviews. And the catch? The Bontrager warranty is only good for 30 days. That should tell you all you need to know right there. If a company won't stand behind their $100 dollar light for more than 30 days than you know it's bound to be junk.
One rain killed it.
Have only had this on the bike about 4 weeks. Was out in a heavy rain, commuting, but did not have the light on. The next day I went out for a night ride and the light would not turn on even though it should have had remaining charge. Plugged it into charge, no indicator lights came on. Reset the cable several time to no avail. I left it plugged in, just in case, and about 30 min. later noticed the headlight flashing intermittently. I unplugged it, the light was extremely hot, it stopped flashing for a moment but then came on full power and would not turn off until, I assuming, either the batter died or evil spirit which possessed the light had moved on to drain the sealant from my tires.
Great light, until it stopped working.
I don't like writing negative reviews at all. But, this is the second of these front lights that has just stopped working and will not charge. I haven't ridden in the wet and the light has always come inside after rides. The light is great, and has a bright wide beam, and the flashing daylight setting is awesome. But this is the second time the light has died with no warning. Trek support has been really great though! 5 stars for them.
Not worth the sale price
I thought it was a deal. I commute over 50 miles per day for work and always need a good light set. In the winter it is dark when i leave and when i return from work. Pedaling. This light set sucks. Never holds much charge. Tail light has to be charged at work or i wont have it on the way home. Headlight switch sucks. Sometimes it will seitch modes, others not. Charge doesnt last long. I would not recommend.
Quit Charging
This light did not last more than a dozen rides before it would not charge. Really surprised me when it completely died. I've never had a light fail completely so soon. Will never buy another Bontrager.
Dead in less than a month
Should’ve heeded the reviews…low battery signal, plug in to recharge and it completely died. Tried different cables and outlets…”It’s dead Jim.” The Bontrager ION 800 was amazing but that died after 2 years-that’s why I’m here. I’ve been using my camping headlamp, maybe that’s a better alternative :)
Good light, short service time.
Hi guys, A mentioned it is a great light but mine is stopped working and charging suddenly after 5 months of use. Won't buy again.
won't charge after less than 2 months
great on the trails, nice beam, nice battery life. but after 2 months, it just stopped charging. tried several chargers but nothing worked.
Good while it works
Works really well in terms of brightness, but the charging ports are very poor quality. I’ve bought two of these sets and both front lights are very hard to attach to the charger. The rear light is easy to plug in, but it refuses ti charge. These are too expensive to fail on the charging front. In addition, it’s super dangerous when you think your taillight should be charged, but it isn’t.
