I purchased the Trestles Elite Eco 20 after looking at several options, one main factor was to find a high performing synthetic sleeping bag. The first night out it never touched 40 degrees and I was comfortable, the second adventure we were deep inside Rocky Mountain National Park, that night temps dropped slightly below zero and I was comfortable. The only thing I can truly complain about is the zipper, on both occasions it snagged... causing a bit of grief each time.
The great part of this bag is the materials. Thin & warm, soft & comfy. There is a 2nd baffle under my chin, makes wrapping up around my neck even warmer. The cinch around my face can be pulled small so only my nose sticks out & exposed. The not so great part of this bag are the zippers. The main zip does not have a guard to keep from running the cloth over, which happens regularly, especially at the top above my shoulder. I believe this will be the critical fail weak point. There is a 2nd zip on the right side, designed to let both elbows access outside, which would be great if I was watching a movie on my phone, but is only another zipper to lose body heat thru.
So i went to a bunch of different stores and tried many sleeping bags but never found one i could comfortably zip closed with me inside until this one, Its a xl long and xl wide. Im about 300lbs and 6’ 2” tall. This is the only mummy bag i can get my shoulders inside. Excellent bag!!
I've had this bag for a few years and it has always worked well from spring to fall in Minnesota and Wisconsin, used for car camping, backpacking and canoe camping. FOr the summer, I sleep on top or lightly covered. I have used it at the lower limit in the lower 20s F. My sleep system was an closed cell Thermarest on bottom, insulated air mattress on top of that, and the sleeping bag. I slept in my clothes with puffy jacket and I was comfortable. I put a Nalgene bottle with hot water by my feet as well. The stuff sack is large enough to also fit my inflatable pillow and insulated air mattress.
Used this on a camping trip a couple nights. Both nights the low was about 42 degrees and both nights I was freezing. I have had multiple sleeping bags in the past and typically unless it’s close to the rating I’m hot and have to leave it partially unzipped. Not the case at all with this bag. I had the hood zipped tight around my head, I was on a sleeping pad and in a three season tent.
Read the specs. In my use of the bag I've experienced exactly what the specs say regarding comfort vs lower limits. It's first trip was a five day backpack to Yellowstone's Mirror Plateau and surrounding area in early September (2020). Below average temps the first few nights that got down into the high teens/low 20s. Those nights I had to wear my down coat (REI Co-op Magma850) to stay comfortable, but that was expected considering the specs. The other nights I was good with a warm long sleeve and beanie.
It's not easy finding decent backpacking gear for the hikers that eat up all the mountain house meals on the trail. The extra wide Marmot sleeping bag is such a wonderful product! I bought this for a timberline trail loop around Mt Hood and it was so nice to actually have a bag up and over my shoulders. Weather report said it got down to 25 at Cairn Basin and I stayed perfectly warm. Light on the trail and wonderful comfort at night. If this ever wears out I'll definitely be buying another.
Used this bag everywhere from Moab heat to 12k in the San Juans in 20° and snow. It's been my all around bag for general camp. I use another bag for Alpine stuff, and another bag for multi day backpacking, but this is a great reasonable priced bag that does most of the dirty work I need from my gear. It's lasted 7 years so far.
Had bag for several months and been out on several warm weather trips, performed admirably. Tested it in "cold" weather last night low was maybe 36F. Was in a tent, which was on a tarp in my back yard. No holes or water leaks, also had Therma Rest Z sleeping pad under. Clothing was thickish wool blend socks, fleece pants, a thermal long sleeve with t-shirt over, and a beanie. Started nice and warm. Woke up with cold feet. Tucked in a bit tighter, sealed hood even more. Woke up again with lower body cold and began to feel in arms. Threw a thin wool blanket over myself and another plastic on one side fake wool on another. Never got full warm. I'm a warm sleeper, last night I was not. Pity, the bag is extremely comfortable, packs well, and has held up great to all other adventures. But a low of maybe 36F in a 20F bag is a let down.
In my youth I was a lean 185 pound rock climber but in my middle age I took up weight training during the pandemic and got a bit "swole" at 230 pounds. As as a result my older sleeping bags now feel like being bound up by a spiders cocoon around my shoulders and chest. So I went on the hunt for a sleeping bag with enough shoulder girth for me to breathe and sleep comfortably that was also suitable for more adventurous travels. Most wider options are strictly car camping type sleeping bags which are relatively heavy and bulky. I am so happy to have found this bag, it is as light as my older regular size backpacking bag, packs to a reasonable size , and oh my goodness the joy of being comfortably in a sleeping bag is almost indescribable. When I was younger I loved the coziness of being zipped up in a sleeping bag after a day on the trail or a rock face. This X-wide bag has brought that joy back to my outdoor adventures. I no longer need a helper to zip me in or out while my arms are pinned against my body by the bag. If you are a thicker person, either around the chest/shoulder, or middle/hips , this is a great 3 -season bag option. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Yes you can be big and healthy and now you have a great high quality , light weight , sleeping bag option for your adventures as a thicker person too.
