Let the pictures speak for themselves

I am currently 6 ft (183cm), 179lbs (81.19kg). The Macai jacket (size: M) fits correctly in all aspects on me. The length of the sleeves are a bit long but I am totally okay with that. On Dec 25th, 2019 , I went to Sasquatch mountain resort for snowboarding. The weather was super great, sunny, light wind and the snow is soft and decent (Please refer to the third picture). I wore a T-shirt, leggings, Proton lt hoody, Alpha COMP Pants and Macail Jacket. Nothing extreme and special happened, the Macai jacket was as great as other ski jackets. Pronton lt hoody stole the spotlight on that day, the hoody kept me warm, and I did not sweat when I rode down the hill. I was so impressed by the mid layer that I forgot to appreciate the Macai jacket. On Jan 5th, 2020, I went to Sasquatch mountain resort for snowboarding again. This time the weather was horrible, super foggy at the top, crazy gusty, snowy and visibility was terrible (Please refer to picture 1 and 2). The resort officially shut down all lift chairs due to extreme winds. (BTW the resort gave us one-time use half day lift tickets as compensation) Before it closed down, we went up the mountaintop and rode down the slopes a couple times. I wore the same Arc'teryx beast mode outfit as Dec 25, 2019. The wind was pushing me hard at higher altitudes, but I was warm and did not feel any wind penetrated my jacket. At lower elevation, it rained. Windproof and waterproof abilities of my Macai Jacket were off the charts! (Please refer to the last picture) From my perspective, Macai jacket is a very functional, practical, truly waterproof and windproof Jacket. The internal dump pocket is perfect for my gloves, toque, and balaclava. The left sleeve pocket is great for my oval membership card, Cypress Mt's ski pass and Compass card. The pit zips use two-way zippers and have powder guard vents to prevent snow entry. I really appreciate all the little details.

A good jacket with unusual sizing of key areas

I ordered this jacket online, comfortable in knowing that the many Arcteryx jackets I have owned over the years in a size Large fit me perfectly. There are definitely things I like about the Macai jacket but in the end, the fit is very unusual. Very long arms and a very tight fit around the collar. The arm length is just strange. But the tight neck and collar makes it too uncomfortable for skiing in cold weather. The very time this jacket is intended to be used.

Bizarrely Long Sleeves

This is my second Arcteryx down jacket. The first was a down filled "trench" coat which I use running around and for going into the office (when that was actually a thing). When I bought that jacket, the reviews all mentioned that the sleeves ran a bit long. They are, but not the extra length isn't terrible. The quality of design and construction is beautiful so when I looked for a new ski jacket, I went straight to Arcteryx again. Unfortunately, the sleeve length on the Macai jacket is even longer. In fact, they're bizarrely long and extend down to the tip of my thumb when I hold my hands to my sides. This is about 2+" longer than my other Arcteryx coat so I'm not sure what their design process was for the Macai. I guess it might be fine if you wear your sleeve over a glove, but I like gauntlet style gloves and the added material is just too much bulk (and the sleeve looks sloppy when it's bunched up to cinch it around the wrist). The jacket seems to run just a smidge big through the chest (to allow for layering) so I'm going to return the medium and try a small.

Warm, well-fitting jacket, but not durable at all

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First, like most Arc'teryx products, this jacket is really great looking, very warm, and fits incredibly well for my body (I am 5'6", 145 pounds). HOWEVER, I bought this jacket for resort skiing, so wasn't expecting crazy backcountry kind of durability, but on my first day wearing it I took what I would call a "normal" fall (no rocks, sticks, sharp ice, etc) and the jacket ripped. Similar to what some other reviews here have stated, would expect this to at least be able to withstand a typical fall. I threw some repair tape over it so can continue to use it, but very disappointed overall and cannot recommend given durability issues.

best jacket ever

i think this is the best jacket ever. before i bought this jacket i was going through a winter jacket every 2-3 years because i couldn't find anything i liked or could keep me warm. i heard extremely good reviews on arcteryx and their products so i looked at them and believe it or not i bought mine because it had the black outside and that dark red inside. once i got it i fell in love with it. i use it every day in canada weather it be going to the mountains to just going to the mall or grocery store. its super warm and i have had it now going on 4 years and it looks and performs as new. BEST JACKET EVER! Highly recommend it!

Very Nice Jacket

Incredibly nice insulated hard shell, great look and fit, with some functional compromises. I recommend this jacket for its quality, performance, appearance and design, but within a somewhat narrow use high-end ski-lodge application. For chair to slope functionality this coat is premiere and looks great. But for that 80 mile snow-mobile round trip or 5 degree F back-country skiing, lack of cargo capacity and minimal layering cut may take this garment too far from intended use and design. I bought a Large at 6’1” and 195 lbs. If there were a size between L and XL that would be me, but the L is perfect as long as I don’t try to layer. With a mid-weight base performance piece and flannel I’m done. I’d like to leave the flannel and replace with a light down layer but too tight. An XL swallows me though.

Not for -30

3 years old. Beat the crap out of it. Still great. For you who complain “...standing around at -30 I’m cold...”, well this jacket wasn’t designed for that. It’s a SKI jacket. So that’s not Arc’teryx fault. “...sleeves too long...”, not Arcteryx fault. You bought the wrong jacket/size. Quit complaining. Do your research and be more selective in what you buy. AND, warmth is subjective to many variables outside of Arcteryx control. Don’t cry because you are looking to get your money back. Anyway I’m happy after 3 years and just yesterday bought a new Macai and I’m sure I’ll be happy with this colour too.

Fit is different but warm

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Got this jacket in the spring of 2020. Just started to wear it this past winter. Most days all that is needed is this jacket and a single layer underneath. Temps where I’m at range from 20F to mid 40F in winter. But lots of public transportation. So outside for most of the day. As for the fit. The arms are a little bit longer but it’s a ski jacket. It’s made for maximum arm movement. After realizing that it makes sense to me. And it makes for a better day to day wear also. Most jackets I’ve had in the past. To include military uniform winter jackets. All have had noticeable arm restrictive motion. This one doesn’t. So it’s different but in a good way after you realize it’s intended use.

Poor craftsmanship - zipper malfunction

I thought this was the last heavy winter coat that I would buy in my lifetime and that I would use it for everyday wear as well as occasional winter sports. I didn't even have the opportunity to use it for the latter and the zipper is malfunctioning (three years of wear). I will reach out to Arc'teryx and edit this review if they prove to me that it is an aberration and repair or replace the coat.

Great jacket so far

I’ve only had this jacket for a month, but it’s been excellent so far. It’s ideal for sub 40 degree F weather, otherwise it’ll be too warm. The only con is the sleeves are a little long even for a long-armed person. I’m 6’1 175lbs and the Medium fits well.
