Great shoe all around, however, on my first hike/climb the shoe basically tore open on a rock....pretty disappointing considering price and the fact they tore open so easily. Same climb done with a pair of Asolos 15+ times without any issues. Will buy Garmont again, just not this particular version. Pretty sure I will have an exposed sock the next time I climb with these. Pretty bummed out about the damage.
Was looking for an airy scrambler for summer and I think I nailed on try 3. I’m loathe to review shoes as we’re all different but these impressed me right out of the box. Had tried the Scarpa Proton and Salewa Firetail 3 and could get neither to fit well. The sticky cloud’s footbed is generous and cozy, forms well unlike the Scarpa which was huge and clunky. They’re light, breathe well and I love the wraparound heel and achilles protection and comfort. The Megagrip is a must have for me. My first Garmont and I’m sold.
Got these shoes as a gift. Right out of the box, they fit great with no break in needed. Haven't worn them on an approach or hike yet, but I can tell just from walking around town, they'll do great. I also wear 5.10 approach shoes, which I love. Going to be a toss up which ones I'll wind up wearing the most. BTW, shortly after getting these shoes, the shoe strings got sucked up into a vacuum cleaner and ruined them. My wife called Garmont who promptly sent out a new pair at no charge. She said the whole process was great and very friendly. That's awesome service in my book.
I have worn these for day hikes on the trails in the White Mountains carrying a 20lb backpack of photography gear. These trails are rock and root and are very slippery when wet. The Sticky Cloud Approach Shoe is ideal for these hikes. Your foot is enveloped in the wrap around fit. The grip is excellent. At higher elevations where the trails are predominately rock, you feel like Spiderman gliding across the tops of granite. Highly recommended.
There’s a reason these are “no longer available”, although I picked these up for $49 at a discount outfitter. Out of the box these are attractive and stylish. The fit and feel was superb. Out on the trail, in dry and wet rock, the grip was excellent. That’s where the accolades stop. After about 35-40 miles in the Daniel Boone NF, they started to separate at the corners of the ball of the foot - the flex point when you take a step. They also abraded easily. I ended up returning them. At $150 MSRP, it’s no wonder why theses are so heavily discounted. I should have known better. After these and other synthetic glued-on soles that don’t last, I’m going old-school, seriously looking at the Asolo Tahoe.
Purchased this shoe 6 weeks ago. Since then I have averaged 5.3 miles a day, ascending and descending on average 340 meters per day, mostly off trail over rocky, soft scree, pine needle, grassy, sometimes muddy terrain all over the Mesa next to my home. I also have scrambled up an down Mount Elden in Flagstaff Az. Eldens terain is similar to the Mesa I have described . Elden is about 1900 feet from base to top. Rated as hard when hiked by trail. Scrambling it, puts you through some great variety of bouldering , scampering through soft , loose sometimes muddy scree. Great stuff . Requires a shoe capable of handling much diversity during a hike. So far the Sticky Cloud has demonstrated it is up to the challenge I have put it though, and will keep putting it through every day till it's worn beyond use. Great traction , awesome comfort . Helps me (almost) keep up with my dog on our hikes. .
Really comfortable (great insoles), breathable, fit is awesome, and great traction. I love the heal lock especially because this is where my shoes have tended to wear out in the past. The lock prevents any slippage in the back during stride.
i tried these shoes on in a store and walked around a bit before purchasing . They seemed very comfortable but wow did they pinch the toes when pushing off. Maybe it was a bad shoe but I couldn't bring myself to purchase them.
