Well constructed, roomy, but not much cushion.

Overall this is a very good shoe for me and I would buy again. It seems to be well constructed, and it is a good value when on sale. I am an older male so my feet have less natural cushion than younger people. My use is relatively light, a lot of walking on pavement or soils, not much rock. It has more than usual room in the front toe area so I wear a heavier sock which is needed because the sole cushioning is not particularly comfortable. I feel like I can feel the outside sole lugs on my feet. It has the typical thin compressed foam(?) insole (pic) so I may substitute this with a gel insole or something with more cushion. I recommend for those needing a roomier shoe in their size for thick socks.

Early review of a Keen hiking shoe

This is from a guy who is old and walks A LOT. The shoes feel good early and are substantial enough to hold their shape. My best friends say they look pretty good and I agree. I liked the help from REI with shipping ... a small effort on their part got me the shoes on time for me! In a year I'll tell you if they lasted. Seems like a good shoe that will last awhile and that I might wear anywhere,

testing

I needed a wider toe boot. Tried a few designs from keen at the store. My size varies from 9.5 to 10 (42 to 43) Decided to try a light cushion sock with a low shoe in a 9.5. But after a several mile hike they were a little too short. The next day I thought that they would work well with a flat peddle mountain bike. Yes ! Simply the most comfortable bike shoe yet. Definitely a keeper. Next purchase will be a mid height boot in a size 10 for hiking.

Narrow toe box. Sigh

Narrow toe box instead of the classic wide toe box of Keens. Not even an average toe box. There may be some differences between Keen and the competitors, but they are relatively minor and only the thing magazine writers would really notice. The toe box, for me, was the reason to go with Keen. I'm on my 4th pair of Keen high hikers (about 12-14 years total) and was trying this model due to price point for a low hiker. Simply doesn't cut it. Other than that, definitely the budget version of everything Keen has had before, which isn't a criticism but you aren't getting classic Keen quality and design for a cut-rate deal. For what they are, they are appropriately priced I guess..

KEEN Headout feels a bit stiff and narrow

A very solid hiking shoe, but also somewhat stiff, especially on the sides of forward shoe box area. Am trying some wooden stretcher blocks at ball of foot to widen and soften them. Love the color.

Wide toe box.

Overall too large for my narrow foot, exchanged for a different boot brand.

Excellent kicks

Keen makes great footwear. It's on the heavy side but VERY protective. These have been fantastic, and I've only had them a few days. Put about 15,000 steps on them the first day. Would buy again!

KEEN changed the last

I have worn keen shoes for years, because the foot box was wide enough for my feet. These aren't. Buy them only if you don't need the old keen fit.

Probably a great shoe;

Solid piece of gear, probably water-resistant; a great heelcup. But about one half-size smaller in length than what I’m accustomed to. Generous toebox helps, but lacking somewhat in sculpted padding. With some shoe insert tuning it may yet prove valued.🤞🏻

Always a great shoe

Keen hikers have always been a great shoe for me, since I retired they are my daily wear, very comfortable and durable. I bought these on sale (graet price from REI) and retired my 2 year old pair. These are a little stiffer but just needs to be broken in.
