Great pack once I threaded a baby diaper pin through the solid cloth at the top of the mesh pockets to take up some slack- Intentionally bought this pack because I could not stand the packs that have water bottle holders so tight I had to struggle and pull muscles to extract a bottle. Simply take a baby diaper pin (not a regular safety pin- baby diaper pins are made to not come undone during baby's movement) and pinch together the excess you want to eliminate and use the pin like thread through those areas and you will be golden. A bonus is the diaper pin can be used to attach wet bandanas for air drying and I created an adjustable sized situation.
I bought this daypack for my husband as a gift for our 2nd anniversary. He brought it along to our annual camping trip and love it! Very well designed with the exception of the shoulder straps, my husband is tall, so the shoulder straps were adjusted to the very end and it still sits a bit funny on his neck/shoulder. I would like to see maybe different size rather than just one size. I am a fan of Osprey's products, especially their backpacks, I have a Daylite daypack, which is just right size for me, since I am a petite girl. This Daylite Plus daypack just gave me another reason to love Osprey.
I recently bought this pack as an airline carry-on and a day pack for city and country hiking/travel. It is small enough to carry on one shoulder comfortably if you wish and holds all I need for a day's adventure - water - snacks, raincoat, camera, GPS, etc. I especially like the grab handle built into the top webbing. I am very pleased with the bag and would give it a 5 except for the side mesh pockets that don't securely hold water bottles as was mentioned by another reviewer . Water bottles fall out very easily. A different tilt and a stronger top elastic band or strap would correct the problem. I may add one on my own. I would definitely buy the bag again.
This day pack is incredibly light and has a variety of options for storage. But this pack is not for me. It didn't fit me well. Walking around in the store with it filled with stuff was not enough exposure for me to realize that it was not a good fit. The back straps cut me under the arms and a clip on one side strap rubbed against my shirt so hard it put holes in my shirt. I also thought it could serve as a carry on for travel and it can, as long as you only pack a very few items in it. I also didn't like the fact that I couldn't just reach around to the side and take my water bottle out of the side pocket. The pockets do have a weird design.
I'm a bit disappointed. Being an Osprey pack I would have expected more. There are just a few features that I think are truly lacking on this pack. First and foremost the huge useless mesh pouches on the side, they don't hold tight to any water bottle nor keep anything else in them safe. Then the flap like pouch on the back is also lacking from some sort of clip closure and there are also some gaps/opening in the corners (don't put small things in here). I should have taken a closer look at the pack (and read other reviews) before buying it but man it sure looks nice and feels light and comfortable. What a bummer
The backpack itself is solid. The pockets are accessible and the zippers are of good quality. The adjustable straps are also a big help. However it has two big issues. One is that the pockets simply do not hold water bottles well at all. Tip your bag at any slight angle and the bottles will fall out. This is very problematic when just trying to move your bag around or even when taking it off. The second is that the straps feel very thin and cheap and I'm afraid they will fall apart after some hard pulls. For the amount of money paid I'm really surprised at how cheap the pull straps are. The pockets dropping water bottles is the bigger problem though.
Could have loved this pack for long dayhikes, except for one fatal design and function flaw: the side mesh pockets don't securely hold water bottles. They are a bit too loose/wide, with the slant on them basically backwards. Bottles sit very loosely in them...lean forward too much and they will slide right out--even large 1L bottles. If Osprey is smart, they could partially alleviate this issue by reversing the slant: higher on the back than front. It is a really unfortunately flaw, as everything else about the pack is great: external hydration pouch (with attachment clip!), well-placed compression straps, and an external stash pouch (on the small side but enough for a rain shell).
I've put this bag through several storms, tossed it around on gravel and rock, and it's still intact and like new (minus some stains). The main compartment is large enough for a change of clothes for a short trip, fits a 13" laptop nicely. Only thing that would make this a 5/5 perfect bag would be addition of daisy chains/gear loops that I can hang various sized carabiners onto. I've tried to hang carabiners to the bottom of the shoulder straps (gear hits my legs), and to the front stash pocket strap (garabiner slides down into the front stash panel and crushes it). Please add 1-2 gear loops to the next version of this bag!!
Perfect size for the summer day trip or even a light over night trip. Plenty of room for 3L hydration bladder, water filter, Jetboil, food and a rain coat. As others have mentioned I have found the side pockets to leave a little to be desired as far as function is concerned. However if you simply route the cinch straps for the front pouch through the lid loop of your Nalgene it will not go anywhere. Yes this does limit the ease of access to you Nalgene's but most of us use a hydration bladder anyway and Nalgene's are just a back up. Great fit and great size.
This is a great, lightweight daypack that is flexible enough for a variety of activities. I primarily bought it to be a day bag while traveling in cities and whatnot, but recently used it at Disneyland. It did a great job. It was well balanced and comfortable. Even though it was a hot day, my back didn't get too sweaty carrying it. The water bottle pockets are fine, but for extra security, I looped the stuff pocket straps through the top loop of my 32oz Hydroflask so if my hydroflask fell out, it would go far. Glad I got it. It will definitely come with me on my next trip. Better than a bag that I paid A LOT more for.
