Great pack. Carries everything one needs for the Camino de Santiago. And it’s comfortable even walking 15 miles a day.
I bought this for winter hiking and LOVE it. After trying on many Osprey packs, this one fit me best. I like that it has some easy access pockets for snacks, headlamp, etc, and can fit a 3L bladder. The bladder is a bit of a chore to get in, but as long as you load it before the rest of your gear, it isn't an issue. I love the quick holder for poles on the straps. I wasn't sure if I'd miss a front stuff pocket, but I haven't found that to be the case. I love the suspension design. The shoulder and hip straps are very comfy.
This is a fantastic backpack for heavier day hikes or light backpacking trips. I really like that the 34L has a full zipper and no brain. Doesn’t feel like any of the bells/whistles/pockets are unnecessary. The hip belt is also super secure and padded which I love :)
Longtime Talon 22 owner and was looking for something larger that could also handle heavier loads or winter layers. This is a well-made pack that fit my 17in torso and narrow shoulders, but 2 things made me return it: the pack doesn't stay upright on the ground unless leaned against something; the suspended back mash limited the capacity. Worked as carry-on luggage, though.
I’m 5’3. The harness was great. Absolutely saved my back. But the pockets on the hip belt were impossible to open one-handed while wearing the pack. The zippers just did not budge. I also could not reach back to the pack side pockets. So if you buy this pack, keep in mind that unless you have long arms, you won’t be able to access those while walking/wearing the pack. For $200, this was a pack fail. Years ago I sent a suggestion for a pack improvement to Osprey. The response from them was disappointing. They said they appreciated communication but that they didn’t take input from anyone but their design team. I bought my first pack from them when they were still in Dolores, sewing them in the old warehouse. But for a long time now, while their harness design is game changing, their poorly designed access pockets and lack of user experience respect demonstrated to me why I left their product line behind years ago.
Great pockets - super comfortable once straps adjusted at store
I really like this pack - it's the perfect size for what I wanted, and it's comfortable. I used it hiking in the Arches, Bryce, and Zion national parks, mainly for 5-10 mile hikes at elevation and I found it to be comfortable. The only reason I downgraded it to 4 instead of 5 stars are the side pockets for my water bottles. I carry large water bottles (32-40 oz) and put one in each side pocket. They seemed to fit fine, but when climbing up rocky slopes at elevation, I sometimes had to bend over to place my hands for support, and every time I bent over, the darn water bottles would slide right out of the pockets. The first time I got lucky - one slid off and started rolling for a cliff, but I was quick enough to grab it before it disappeared forever. After that, I secured them with carabiners, but while that kept them from completely getting lost, they would still slip out of the pockets and I would end up with heavy metal bottles hanging loosely from carabiners. That's not exactly the safest way to climb! I kept trying to tighten things so they wouldn't slip out, but I had no success, so I finally ended up putting at least one bottle inside the pack, which is not the best. So for size and comfort, I'm very happy, but I feel the side pockets need a better design, whether they need to be deeper, or maybe designed so the straps can be tightened better. I also have an Osprey Ariel 65 and don't have a problem with that pack, so this seems to be something about the design of the Sirrus 34. Otherwise, I like it a lot.
Tried multiple size (30/34/36L). Sirrus 34 Pack for approximately 20 lb including 2.5L water pouch is perfect for a weeklong hiking trip as a single bag. The compartments are well-designed. Side pockets are deep enough if water bottle is preferred. The belt pocket can be bigger. It does not fit in iPhone. A small size sunblock and hand lotion will make it hard to zip on/off. Overall very happy with the quality.
Great pack for day hikes. I use it for daily 5-8 mile hikes for field work in the desert. Only qualm is make sure the hip pockets are zipped because I have lost some items because they were unzipped and I bent down to tie my shoe (my fault).
I bought this pack for long hikes. We are doing a Grand Canyon R2R in October and I needed more than my annoying, small, backpack. Which was more like a book bag. But the pack is perfect for shorter hikes, too. It fits the body SO well! I am 5' 4" with long legs and a short torso. I got the Small. The adjustability of the pack is what makes it great. It sits so nicely on my hips and distributes the weight perfectly. No back strain at all. I love the hip strap zippered pockets for little things like my phone and some tissues. The pack is great for organizing everything. It's lightweight and feels very stable, meaning, it doesn't throw my balance off at all. I really can't say enough about the pack. I am so glad I got it!
