Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

Pain free running

I tried running about 25 years ago (I’m now 66) and it messed up my knees. Every 20 years or so I try running again (such a convenient aerobic workout!) and yup, it hurts my knees. Borrowed my son-in-law’s Altra Torin 3.0s and, what’s this? Knees didn’t hurt. Bought myself a pair and I’ve been running 2-3 times a week, building up gradually, with, you guessed it, no knee pain. The zero drop, high cush seems to be the winning combo for me. I love walking in them, as well, and on those occasions when I have to be on my feet all day, these shoes are more comfortable and less fatiguing than any other shoe I’ve ever tried. I’m a believer.

Comfortable for walking, didn’t work for running

I bought these shoes b/c the price was great. I had previously ran in the escalante and liked them. Unfortunately, and I’m not sure if it was a defect with my specific pair or a widespread problem, but the top of my foot would hurt every time I would run in them. I’m not sure if its the shoestrings/ tongue of the shoe or what but it would cause pain to the point I would have to stop running. They work fine for walking so I will most likely convert them to a work shoe. I was a bit disappointed but maybe I’ll try another pair of Altra sometime to see if I will continue running in them.

Improved my long distance running instantly!

I was running in the Altra Escalante 1.0 for about a year and was getting frustrated. My lower legs were getting really beat up when I ran longer than 5-7 miles. I battled with shin splints the whole year. I got up to 13 miles but it was hard! So then I switched to the Torrin’ and I ran 10 miles my first time out in them without any issues. I’ve since gotten up to 17.5 without many problems. Definitely reccomend if you’re running long distances.

Sizing is important

I normally wear a 8.5 wide. In these shoes I had to go to a 10. A 9.5 seemed OK, but there was not enough volume/height in the toe box. The width was great. But the extra 1/2 size turned out well. Very light weight, comfortable walking shoes. Don’t think I would like them for distance running. They may be a little overpriced for the product.

This shoe will change the world of athletic shoes

No other athletic shoes surpass the Altra Torin 3.0's in toe box roominess. ...And this shoe is second only to the Hoka One One Bondi 5's for cushiness. But the Bondi's have a narrower toe box, and thus my toes were cutting into each other after only 1.5 miles on a hike recently. With the Altra's - no such problem Now I find myself running in the Torin's; weightlifting in the Torin's (the zero heel drop is critical for that activity) ...and working all day in them all day long. The next thing I am doing is getting another pair just to have another pair on hand, because I am using these for everything. Ignore the slightly clownish look of the bigger toe box. Comfort is what counts. The bottom line is that these are the most comfortable road-running shoes that I have ever put on in my over six decades of vigorous athleticism.

Good fit

Love the shoe. It is a bit sloppy on sides allowing more foot rolling. I would prefer more side support. Next pair. These serve their purpose.

Great Walking Shoe

I've been walking 3 miles every day for the past 15 years. I've used New Balance, Avia, Saucony, Merrill, to name a few. These are the best walking shoe I've used. Excellent comfort, lots of foot room, and ventilation. They're a pleasure to have on your feet. Highly recommend.

Hikers can lose tonails from steep descents. These are built for a wide foot with a decent spread. Hooray.
