I bought this bag about a year ago and it has since seen many adventures. I'm a bit of a fair weather backpacker so I can't speak to how well it performs under wet conditions although when kept in a dry bag and taking care to not get too much on it in the tent it seemed to withstand the wet weekend we just had. This bag keeps me super toasty - I haven't been cold once and that includes multiple nights on snow. Only complaint is that the lime green color I bought it in shows dirt really easily but that's never really the point (:
Let me begin by saying, this is a lovely sleeping bag. Light, warm, and I for one just love this year's color! Unfortunately, it was just too constricting for me. I had room just barely to bend one of my knees a bit, but no more. In order to sit crosslegged in the bag, I had to scootch up pretty much to the top of the bag. This is not so much a problem for side sleepers, as if you bend both knees the same way the bag just bends with you; but if you need to move your legs a bit before drifting off ... I imagine most lightweight mummy bags are like this, which is why I bought a Nemo "spoon-shaped" bag.
I bought this bag 18 months ago and really liked it at first. I'm 5'7" and bought the long in order to have extra room in the hips, which works really well since I'm a side sleeper. At first, the bag was really warm, but almost immediately, I began noticing that the down kept escaping the bag. I initially thought that this was just a settling issue, but it continues to happen. I recently returned from a backpacking trip with nighttime temperatures around 35 degrees (well above its rating), and despite wearing an insulated jacket and pants, I froze at night. Also, the down has continued to come out, and it goes absolutely everywhere each time I stuff the bag pack into its sack. I really wanted to love this bag, and at first I did, but the quality simply doesn't hold.
I love everything about this bag! The feel, the color, the weight.... BUT it is WAY TOO TIGHT in the SHOULDERS, and I see they've conveniently left out that measurement in the specs. Further, it is simply awful trying to get it to zip up to the top. Now I am a side sleeper, and when I turn to my side, it doesn't feel too bad. However, I also like to squirm, so I know all of the good things about the bag will slowly fad when I shift from side to side before falling asleep. I just recommend going to the store and getting in it before you buy it online! My search for the perfect sleeping bag continues!!! I
This is my first woman-specific bag & the design features were immediately beneficial to giving me a good night's sleep! I hiked the AT from WV-ME with this bag & even when some of the down shifted or clumped, I still could stay warm. I'm 5ft 11 and was concerned that this bag would be too small, but it's spacious enough for me (even as a Demi-side sleeper). The double zipper makes changing in shelters a breeze & the color is obviously perfect!
I always used to sleep cold when I went backpacking, but never again! Plus if your husband/significant other gets the marmot sawtooth bag, they zip together perfectly!
Glad I spent the extra money for this bag! I am 5'7 110lbs and purchased the long. I purchased this for backpacking and get cold easily and sleep on my side and this bag is great. There is enough padding on the back to keep we warm at night and love the added features in this bag. Fits perfectly in the sleeping bag compartment of my Osprey Kyte 36 Pack.
I bought this bag a couple of years ago, and it has seen quite a few camping trips. It has never disappointed me in terms of warmth. It's actually my second version of the bag. I had an issue with the first where one of the seams ripped out and feathers exploded everywhere, but rei took it back and gave me a new one and I haven't had this issue yet with my current one. There is a bit of tightness around my knees, but I sleep on my side so it isn't an issue. I am 5'6 And have the long, and am able to fit a sea to summit pillow in the hood. All in all I definitely recommend this bag!
I purchased this sleeping bag just last year. There are two large holes in it - one at the zipper and one in the middle. When using this bag backpacking I have often not had enough duct tape to fix the holes on the spot. Every morning I use it I wake up with feathers everywhere. Feathers are even escaping through the stitching. I'm extremely disappointed in the quality of this bag. My last sleeping bag lasted 7 years with no issue.
LIKES: Great fabric! Great color! Super warm! I wish I could use it more but it is so warm and I live and camp often in Texas so with the warmth I don't get to use it as often as I would like because it is so comfortable, soft and plush! I'm 5'9" and 140lbs so I got the long size. It fits me great and I love the way the foot of this sleeping bag is shaped to box in the feet but not restricting in the foot area no matter how you sleep but still keeps my feel nice and warm. I can tell it has increased insulation for the female figure and it definitely makes a difference. I am a female who is cold all of the type and loves to snuggle up in thick warm bedding to fall asleep. This bag fits that bill. I haven't gotten it wet but in muggy conditions inside my tent I haven't noticed the down clumping or losing any loft at all. No cold spots with the way the fabric and down fills the spaces around the body without the down shifting or the bag being too restrictive. Lots of room in most of the bag to sleep on side, stomach or back for me as I move around a lot while I sleep. The bag compresses down fairly small and is pretty light weight for backpacking. I have room to spare when I pack it in the sleeping bag compartment in my Osprey Aura 65 bag. Zippers are a big thing for me and I haven't had problems like snagging or drafts with the zippers on this bag. Seals tightly around the neck and head area to create a great seal to keep warmth in when needed. I really am impressed with where the seams are as they are not uncomfortable and keep more heat in. Nice stash pocket. Great warm bag! DISLIKES: The mummy shape of this bag can be a little restricting around the knee and shin area. The way I sleep it doesn't really bother me unless I am moving around a lot to change positions and even then I don't really notice it. I could see how some people with certain sleeping positions or habits or different body types how this could be a problem. I have had quite a few feathers come through the fabric but not at an alarming rate or much more than my favorite down pillow.
