Rated 3 out of 5 by from Complicated, buckle digs into head Wanted to like this headlamp, it had tons of features, lots of lumens, cool green color, and was on clearance so the price was right. However, when I put it on, the buckle on the inside of the band digs into your head. My son tried it on and within minutes he was rubbing at his head where the buckle was too. My other concern was that controls are not intuitive, it was hard to figure out how to turn on the different features, and I was not able to make the touch feature work reliably. I'm sure you would learn your way around all the features eventually, but it wasn't the sort of thing you could just pick up and go with. Sadly I returned this one and went with a Petzl Tikka instead.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Returned it I used this lamp once to hike through some caves, it was awesome at the time. I set it on my shelf for a while and packed it again for some sunrise hikes almost a year later. I was super surprised when the light wouldn't turn on but figured that batteries must have drained somehow. I put in new batteries and it was back to it's bright self for my first 10 mins on the trail. Then it suddenly turned off and wouldn't turn on again. I tried a few new fresh batteries and it still wouldn't work. I finally brought it back and exchanged it for a model from another brand. Much happier with that headlamp so far!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good product, with 2 exceptions It has a nice and compact box that feels light weight on the head. It has bright lights, and a comfortable strap. My wife 'approved' when she said it looked good. One review expressed concerns about the latch being exposed to breakage. It is possible, but it is not very exposed and I'm not worried about it. Another worried about the tilt mechanism abrading away over time. This headlamp replaces a Petzl I had for years that uses the same mechanism, and it was never a problem. I have three issues with it that may cause a return. 1) I can NOT figure out how to engage the lock. They use text to talk about stupid stuff like adjusting the strap, but use only diagrams to describe how to use the button modes, including locking the lamp. They don't make sense, and if I follow them anyway, I get a different result. 2) The red light is too bright. I use it for bedroom reading as well as for camping, but it floods the area more than my old Petzl does, and is so bright it disturbs my wife. I may replace it with the Black Diamond Spot Headlamp 2016, which offers an adjustable red light. 3) Why does the box say 3 year warranty, and the instructions say 1 year? Which is it? These are questions I will submit to the Q&A page.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The clip is INSIDE the band! I bought one of these and immediately returned it. One of the two plastic buckle/clip thingies sits on the inside of the band, where it presses against your head. Operating this light was finicky and complex -- it has many modes, and just one button, so it needs weird combinations of double-clicks, triple-clicks, hold-it-down, and you never know quite what it's going to do. Black Diamond seems to have a great list of features on these lights, at the expense of usability. Now I'm looking for a much simpler Petzl or Princeton Tec.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great lamp for the price I like several things about this lamp... It has two leds, one for proximity and the other for distance. Both are variable intensity. It has a red led which is quite bright for working at night. The strobe can be set for the white or the red led. I was about to return it because I thought it didn't have a lock option but it does. That and its compact size and shape made it perfect. It is a lot less bulkier than the older design. The only possible flaw is the latch holding the battery door on, it is plastic and could break if treated roughly, or come unlatched if dropped. It felt comfortable to wear and it was very bright. There is a slip of paper that describes how to use the different modes. If you can plan a backpacking trip, you should be able to figure out how to use this headlamp.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Green black diamond head lamp I liked aspects of the headlamp a lot (the strap size, adjustable, brightness of the light, on/off button), however, the first one I bought didn't clasp shut. After I inserted the batteries, the clasp wouldn't shut tight, therefore the battery latch would open up while I was climbing, which moved the light. I had to hold it shut with a hair tie until I could exchange it. Once I got a new one, it worked great! I think it was just that single one that was produced wrong.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for astronomy I purchased this light to use while I observe the night sky using telescopes, star atlases and software on a laptop. The red LED dims enough so that it is very usable under the stars and so that your eyes will remain adapted to the dark. I really like being able to brighten the red LED by simply tapping the side of the headlamp when I am ready to pack up all my gear at the end of the night. This headlamp is built well, light weight, and is very easy to use switching not just between varying brightness of the red LED but also between the other white light modes. Great light - highly recommended!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Lamp for the $$ I bought this lamp for hiking at night. Not that I hike at night, but at times, starting late, after work, I'm not back to the jeep before the sun sets. This is a great little light for the money. Not as bright as some that cost twice as much but brighter than most others of the same price. Only complaint is the red light function is really not very good. When camping to save my night sight I will use this feature. The red light on this is just not strong enough for regular use. Great back up light or emergency light for car or house.
