I bought these shoes in November, trained for a half marathon. Well, I'm not sure how long shoes are supposed to last, but I don't remember my Nike's doing this. They busted open only after 6 months of use. Also, the toe portion is very uncomfortable for long runs. For the price, this is not what I expected.
2 years ago, I purchased the Asics Gel-Kayano 20 running shoe. They fit perfectly, great support, still walk in them everyday. Recently I purchased the Kayano 22 shoes, only to find that they were not even close to the 20's in quality, fit, and comfort. The 22's were stiff, didn't have as contoured a footbed, and just plain uncomfortable. Too bad, they had a good thing going with the Gel-Kayano 20's. Returned the 22's for a refund.
I bought this shoe about a month ago and absolutely love it. While some of the reviews I read said it ran short or was tight in the toe box I did not find this to be true. In running shoes I have always purchased a half a size larger than pumps or flats and did so when I purchased these. They fit perfect. They have excellent cushion while providing good support. I would purchase them again and would recommend to a friend. This is the fourth pair of asics I have purchased in the past two years and find them to wear well considering the miles I put on them. I'm glad I went with past experience rather than some of the other reviews I had read.
I have been so happy with the Gel-Kayanos the last two years, purchasing models 20 and 21. To make sure I had another of these wonderful shoes, I bought another online during the REI sale. Unfortunately, with model 22 ASICS changed their winning design, making the toe box too small and ruining a perfect shoe. I returned mine. I was so disappointed. Luckily, I found a model 21 at an outlet mall.
I was fitted for the Gel Kayano 22 by a running specialist in a sporting goods store. I have very high arches and over-pronate like crazy when walking and running. When ordering I went with one size larger for my running shoes and got a D width because my feet are very wide. These are the best running shoes I have obtained so far. Have ran in them during rain, humidity, on super hot pavement, and on a treadmill. I do anywhere from 15 to 25 miles a week run/walking. To make them last a little bit longer I also put in some mushy foot padding designed for my foot type and give them a quick once over with a baby wipe. I would seriously recommend getting a good fitting before you give this item less stars. I will be buying several pairs of these for future races!
I now have tow pairs of these and my toe nails which I do keep cut short are bruised. My doctor recomended Asics with Stablizers 4 years ago and I have been buying these Gel_Kayano's since and have loved them until the store said this is the new style. So I went on line to find the ones I have been buying and got other pair one these narrow toed style. I wear these every day to work so I can compromise my nails. I went back to Brooks and bought something for now not to continue to hurt my nails. It is not a size problem it is the narrow toe. I am so sad about this because I had finally found something that really made my feet feel great and you changed them.
I am a devote Asics wearer, specifically Kayanos. Super comfortable and has met all my running needs. I run often and replace my shoes a couple times a year (As recommended by most avid runners: 300-500 miles per pair of shoes). Most of the previous comments on here seem confusing to me... I wear a 7.5/8 for regular shoes and typically buy a US 9 in running shoes. I have had no issues and my feet feel great after long runs in these shoes. I agree with one comment, little to no break-in needed. I wouldn't start out on a 5 mile run in these but can see a week of a couple 2 or 3 mile runs before breaking into a 7 miler. love the shoe, can't wait for my next pair!
... And not in a good way. I have been wearing Asics Kayanos for 20 years and since the late teens models (when the price jumped from $110 to $130 to $160 in quick succession) they have been dropping in quality and instead of lasting 300+ miles have felt worn out (no protection - like running directly on concrete) in less mileage. The 22 was "gone" in less than 50 miles! Stupid me bought two pairs - the blue gave slightly better protection than the purple - not sure if it is faulty but Asics didn't reply when I asked if that was a possibility and was there any way it could be tested. Very sad great shoes gone bad :(
I have been wearing the Kayano for a about 3 years I think about 5 pairs. I loved them so much because they always felt great from run one until the soles wore out, but the new Kayano 22 is horrible. I hate the new cheap material and weird plastic over the toe, it really cuts right over the toe. I went into my local running store to return the pair I ordered online and was just about in tears because I loved my old ones so much. She said many of the customers have had the same complaint, so maybe Asics would change it back once they heard all the complaints. I hope so Asics bring it back bring it back!!!
I have always worn a size 9b in all my running shoes, including my last few pairs of Gel-Kayano. The 22 was sized much more narrow- and I ignored all the reviews and got my regular size. They were so uncomfortable I sent them back. I was so disappointed I didn't even consider getting a DWidth until a friend suggested it. This "wide" shoe fits my feet just a well as the previous style did in the "medium " width. That said, I love these shoes- the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn. Next time- I think I'll try them on at the store instead of dealing with the shipping since the sizing is unreliable.
