I just did the full Camino del Norte in Spain this summer and chose these shoes (with Superfeet insoles) in place of the clunkier hiking shoes/boots that nearly everyone else had. I had anticipated blisters, fasciitis, or at the very least aches and dread putting them on each morning for another full day of walking. Never. These shoes were super lightweight and performed flawlessly for trail hiking and road walking both. I didn't even care when they got damp from rain because they would dry completely by the morning. This was not true with anyone else's shoes, so I was the only one who never had to put soggy shoes back on the next day. They wore out by the end of the Camino, but that's a lot of a lot of walking, so I don't know how long the soles would have lasted with normal use.
These are great shoes for exactly what I bought them for...kicking around at the gym and casual walks. I was tired of wearing my "puffy" running shoes for everything and I like to reserve running shoes just for running so they will last longer. They are cute even on my enormous feet. Recently took them as my camp shoes on a 6-day bike tour where I was counting ounces and was very happy with how lightweight they are. They don't have a ton of support (I have high arches), but they are slim and comfortable. Tops are MESH, so don't expect to keep moisture out....but that means they have nice airflow in the heat, which is a plus.
I am about to order these shoes for the third time. I'm a daily sidewalk/street walker and love how light weight they are. After trying the Vibram Fivefingers I felt I needed a bit more sole and these shoes were perfect. The reason for the three stars is the sole only lasts for maybe 6 months if I'm lucky. I understand they will not last as long as a thicker soled shoe but I think this time frame is too short.
I returned my first pair after they wore out after probably two months' total worth of use on a rafting trip and on a few easy hikes and walking around town (I'm not a runner anymore, and no way would these offer enough cushion or support to run in). I looked around for other shoes that felt as good and couldn't find them, so bought another pair and have been more deliberate about where/when I wear them. They're still wearing out really fast, but this time in I know that's the tradeoff for comfort, so I'm OK with it. But would feel better about the short life span if they were cheaper. $100 for two months' worth of wear is a LOT.
I'm going to preface this with I am not a runner. I tried these shoes on at REI and thought they were super comfortable and liked them a lot. I'm a certified nursing assistant so I'm on my feeties and walking around frequently every day. We also go hiking and whatnot with dogs. I got these shoes in April off 2016 then broke my ankle the same day I wore them the first time D: so didn't wear them for 12 weeks. Once I was healed enough to wear shoes again I was so excited to put these back on! So I started wearing these at the end of June 2016, it's now mid September 2016 and basically my shoes are already going bald. The tread is wearing off the bottom, the pink is peeling off the gray of the sole in multiple places and for the most part they've been worn on smooth tiled floor or carpet. I did one 5k fun run but that was it. I am not impressed at all.
I love this shoe! I'm constantly in search of the next best running shoe and Merrell has nailed it with this one! There was no need to break this shoe in before my run. I put them on right out of the box and ran three miles. I use them daily for treadmill and dirt road running. I read reviews that they run small but didn't have this problem. I ordered my normal size and they fit perfectly with regular running socks. However, if you like thicker socks, I suggest ordering up half of a size. This shoe is super light weight and feels great on my feet! A+ on this pair of shoes!
I love the fit of these shoes and how they are lightweight and breathable, but they are NOT meant for trail running, or any trail for that matter. I use them 3-4 times a week for 1 week and had to return them because there was no tread left. I mean, zero tread. After one week!! I could hardly finish a hike because I could feel any sharp rock I stepped on and it hurt. Also, parts of the tread were coming apart - the foam was separating from the rubber sections. I love them at first, but no way could these have lasted me all summer.
This is my second purchase of the Merrell Women's Mix Master Move Glide Trail Running shoe from REI. I was very skeptical that such a light, comfortable shoe would have anything to offer on the trail until I went camping and fishing with my folks and used the shoes in all sorts of terrain from trails, to slopes, to wet river rocks. I was surefooted and never got tripped up or bruised from rocks wedged in the tread. The shoes are cool and stable and I never changed them out the entire trip. If they got wet, they dried quickly and retained their shape regardless of the beating they were taking. Who knew such a light, flat shoe would make for such comfortable trail running and hiking. I am sold on these little beauties!
My son uses this shoe because he is in-between kids and adult shoe sizes. He said it doesn't look like a girl shoe so he didn't mind wearing it. The shoe took a 9 year old boy's beating for 9 months. He wore the shoe every day until the put a hole in the side and wore the bottom almost completely off. We went to get another pair, a 1/2 size bigger, and the first pair the front of the sole came unglued. Shoe was exchanged and have had no issues. He likes the light weight, flexible fit. I like the durability.
I was trying to find a walking/gym shoe. After exchanging another pair of shoes twice because they just didn't feel right. On a whim, I tried these on in the store and fell in love with them. I like that they are super light weight, and they are wide in the ball of the foot which gives me better stability. Also, they don't feel bulky. I can walk in these for hours. Lastly they are nice looking. I have received many compliments towards them.
