The hands & head free awesome tent lighting

I bought this about 2 months ago. Have used on 2 different hikes. Works well with both my tents, Big Agnes and REI. The hooks allow you to customize placement. Lite weight and small, I recommend using Lithium batteries for even less weight. I like that the wires are covered for better protection. The one thing I noticed: the light reflection on the Big Agnes tent (tent has white netting) was brighter than the REI Tent (tent has black netting). Little pricey , but going on every trip from now on.

Wimpy Light System, not ready for prime time
Wilderness Trekker

The name, MtnGlo aptly describes this chain of LED's. It produces barely a glow, but no useful light in the tent. The ads for it show a lot more light than I experienced in actual use. I am a huge enthusiast of Big Agnes, but I think that they completely missed the mark on this product. The amount of light output from this device is shamefully low and even lower on the "low" setting. There are lots of high-performance LED light systems, whether discreet lanterns, like the Luci that give high-quality light or Petzl / Black Diamond headlamps that give useful light for wilderness use or emergencies. This device is useless and was returned to REI. Don't waste your time on this product.

Find Yourself and Your Gear

I made my first use of the mtnGLO kit on a 7 day PCT section hike in Oregon. I attached to the mini-gear loft in a Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2. While I didn't find it provided sufficient light to read my Kindle, it was an excellent light source for locating things in my tent. Instead of groping around for my headlamp I simply reached into the small gear storage pocket in the tent ceiling and pushed a button. Light was more than enough to find gear, put on clothing, adjust seeping pad/bag, etc. There was one unexpected but great added benefit. On a night-time relief break I was able to see my tent 200 feet away so could focus my headlamp on avoiding obstacles on the trip back to the tent.

Great lighting and tent accent in the evening

I purchased this light accessory kit for an upcoming 4-day backpacking trip. I have a Big Agnes Copper Spur UL1 tent. It routed neatly and perfectly in the front half (upper body part) of the tent. It provided plenty of light while inside the tent to wrap up a few things prior to calling it a night. I love the two illumination settings - full and half. It provided plenty of light throughout the tent and I found it better to use than my headlamp which would only illuminate in the direction it was pointed. It is very lightweight (an ounce or two) and I left it attached in my tent each morning when I broke down my tent, rolled it up, and put it back into the tent stuff bag.

great lite system

When I bought mine there were not any reviews yet. Kind of pricey but glad I bought it. One advantage of the light kit is you can use it all of your tents (don't lie, your wife and I know you have one for every occasion, like me). Not really enough lite to read a book but ample to sent up your tent in the dark and do most everything else. No fumbling to find your head lamp as the battery portion has the easy to use hi-lo-off button. Glow in the dark would be good here. Crazy ounce counting people would not want to carry the few extra ounces, but then I take an second pair of socks and leave most of the tags on my underware so I don't mind. Still using the first set of batteries do I can't be sure how long they last. One bonus or drawback, depending on how you view it, is that it is easy to find your tent in the dark when the lite is on.. I am glad I bought it and use it regularly.

This is useful to help find the big flashlight.

I bought this with the money I had left over from cashing in my member credit, otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. And I'm happy with it because it's nice to have a tent light with a switch hanging on the wall out of the way but easily accessible and always in the same place. And I can roll it up with the tent! That's fantastic. In my own humble opinion it's not enough light to play cards. But I can flail my sleepy hands around, find the switch, and instantly have enough light to find things. Not much more that that, but that's what I want. I usually camp solo so there's not much card playing or hanging out going on. This is one experiment I'm glad I tried. If I bought it cheap but never use it, it cost too much. If I paid too much for it but I use it all the time and it works, it was cheap.

Awesome system!

Had a chance to test this out and it is awesome! My only point of critique is that I hope that they come out with a line that is red light instead of white so that it still provides light, but saves my night vision.

Fun, ambience, convenient

I second the suggestion for a red light setting. The version my boyfriend and I have has two settings, so why not add a third setting for the red light? It really would save my night vision. The bright setting is not that much brighter than the dim setting. The dim setting is just a little too bright to leave on while sleeping, but great to locate your tent and zippers and such when you are spending time in the tent before sleepy time.

Nice, subtle lighting

The product photos are quite exaggerated as far as how much light this gives off. The light is quite dim. It's really great "novelty" lighting. Looks really cute inside my tent, but for practical purposes, it's not enough light to be that functional. However, it's subtle enough that you can turn it on in the middle of the night if you need to relieve yourself if you need to use the restroom-- definitely won't wake your tent partner up. So, in short, while it's not functional, it's got a nice novelty and offers nice mood lighting. I'll still take it with me on backpacking trips since it's small and light.

Not Just for the Campsite

Originally purchased for lightweight hammock/bicycle camping I recently took these with the kids on a car trip and used these lights to make a "landing strip" to the bathroom in the hotel rooms. Not overly bright to keep us awake but enough light to see through sleepy eyes.
