[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The first time I wore this jacket I was on a vacation in Seattle. That day, it rained for 24 hours straight and did not let up for a second! I was outside all day on walking tours, etc. and rain never seeped through once! I was completely dry while my other two friends were soaking wet with their "water-proof jackets." It has a lot of hidden zippers/pockets and adjustable components to fit the jacket to your needs. My favorite part is the hood which you can adjust according to how low you want the hood on your face. It also has a sort of cap on the hood that acts as a great barrier to the rain! Overall, I love the bright orange color and durability of this jacket.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Size: true to size Color: great! Material Makes a very loud crinkly type sound. I got this for running in the Pacific Northwest. The jacket does keep the rain out... but it holds in body heat that condenses on the inside. I haven’t been able to wear it for more than 10-15 minutes. Each time I have decided I’ll stay drier and warmer without the jacket because The inside of the jacket was more wet than the outside! For the warmth comment: I know this is just a shell but it got very cold because the inside condensation gets my shirt wet then it is cold when the wind hits. Even with the underarm zippers for breathing, I would not recommend.
I was looking for a basic lightweight rain shell with "pit zips" for ventilation while exercising, and this jacket does the trick! I've already used it a couple of times in moderate rain, and it's kept me dry. The zippers near the arm pits allow for good ventilation, and the hood keeps me dry without getting in the way. I also like that the sleeves are long enough (I am 5'10" and often have a problem with too-short sleeves). The only suggestions I would have to make this jacket better are a smoother zipper (the sealing material makes it a little hard to zip up), and a hanging loop on the inside (there is currently one on the outside).
I work outside for a living this jacket doesn’t hold up to 8hrs of working in rain. The inside of the jacket was wet. I had the hood up the whole time so I know it wasn’t from the hood being down and collecting water. I was getting warm so I removed my vest and when I put the jacket back on it felt cold against my long sleeve shirt so I had to put my vest back on. I also maybe thought it was from me getting warm but it was wet all day in misty rainy weather in temps of 40 degrees. So the moisture wasn’t from me being warm. I’ve had this jacket for years and has been fine up until I had to work all day in rain. Not recommended for all day wear in wet weather.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I ordered this jacket and 2 others for my teen daughter who wanted a raincoat. She is normally a women's size 6 or 8, so we were confident the Large would fit as my past experience with Columbia outerwear taught me that sizing can run small. We received the order and were disappointed that the jacket was too small to wear anything other than mediume weight clothing underneath -- no room for layering. While she didn't wear it in the rain and field test the functionality, the construction looks amazing. The zippers look sleek and waterproof, every seam is sealed, the fabric looks very waterproof. The quality looks so solid, I was actually disappointed that it didn't fit.
This jacket is very breathable and the rain just falls off of the material. I bought the red hibiscus and I love the color! I would say that because it is so breathable, I tend to wear a long sleeve for the spring rains to keep me comfy (hence why I call it for spring/summer use). I wear size large normally and got the jacket in large. I can wear a fleece zip-up under the jacket and it still looks find. The hood fits great with ponytails and keeps my face dry. For improvement of design, I would suggest to alter the zipper so it is easier to use. Currently it tends to get stuck more often than I would desire.
I purchased this in Foxglove for a week long walking trip in the English Cotswolds. I wore it occasionally during the trip and on one whole day it rained. While it seemed to keep the rain out - the inside became wet. Just didn't seem to breathe as stated. I wore moisture wicking base layers under. Each time I removed the jacket, the inside seemed as wet as the outside. My clothing however was dry. The hood worked well, but had to purchase a ball cap to keep the brim up. On a prior trip to Alaska I used a much more expensive Columbia jacket that truly was breathable, but was more than 2x the price.
I wore this jacket in the rain, and it was wet inside. I wanted to give it another chance, and today I had the chance to wear it in a downpour. The inside was wet. Possibly - just possibly - that was because I didn't put it on until I was already slightly damp, and I did not put up the hood (I wore a large hat) so some rain may have come in the neck. But it seems that the inside was wetter than those things would explain, and my clothes were pretty wet, too. It was not that warm a day, so unless there is absolutely no breathability, I suspect that the jacket is not waterproof. My husband likes his "watertight II", but it only comes in men's sizes. I'm looking for a similar women's jacket.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased the arctic blue and the blue is actually quite a bit lighter than it looks in the picture, and I loved it so much more! This coat is functional anyone who hikes, camps or might just be caught out in the rain quite a bit for their job like me. I am 6'1 and often times run into issues with coats being short in the arms and in the torso. That is not the case with this coat! It is very breathable and I am able to fit a long sleeve shirt underneath it without it being snug. If you are looking for a lightweight coat to keep you dry I would definitely recommend this product
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am outdoors often, and for long periods of time. I have worn this jacket as a teacher for about 30-45mins at a time for arrival and dismissal, and the insides of the sleeves always felt damp, but I dismissed it as body heat, as the jacket is moisture-wicking. Yesterday, I hiked for 5 hours in 30mph winds, rain, & sleet. While the jacket does keep out the wind, it does not hold up against rain for long periods of time. I was soaked, disappointed, and finally resorted to an emergency poncho to try to keep from getting any more wet. Time to find a truly waterproof jacket.
