[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just the rain jacket I was looking for. The Northwest Explorer jacket has a longer length that I really appreciate. I like having a rain shell that goes down further for added protection. Additionally, I don't feel restricted in the arms or shoulders at all. The sleeves are nice and long, which I really like. The hood is also generously sized. I haven't tried, but I think it would fit over my ski helmet. I sized up for layering room, but could probably wear my usual size. I just wanted extra room. After I purchased this jacket, my mother decided to order one too. I would definitely recommend it.
I have been trying out multiple 2.5 and 3L rain jackets for an upcoming trip. Columbia has been great in the past for my kids' winter jacket so it seemed worth a try. Compared to the in-house brand and an eco-friendly brand, this jacket is not my first choice. While their retail prices are within $10 of each other, the Northwest Explorer is many ounces heavier. The jacket also feels thicker and stiffer than others. The jacket has roomy pockets and the lining looks nicely sealed. As a petite, unfortunately, this jacket runs rather long. My entire hand is covered by the jacket sleeve. My big gripe is that there is a big logo on the back of the jacket. I don't feel like being a walking advertisement.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this jacket on sale a few weeks ago and it is fabulous! The fit, quality and features (e.g. side zippers, hood stability) are beyond what I was expecting. I used it for the first time a few days ago when caught in a rainstorm. I stayed dry everywhere the jacket covered me. The water seemed to bead up and run off so I wasn't sitting in my car in a soaking wet coat. Plus I didn't feel clammy in it. I love the color (orange/coral). For reference, I'm 5'3", 135 lbs and am 36DD, 28 waist and 41 hips. I got the large and it's a bit oversized for me (especially in the sleeve length but has velcro straps to sinch in on wrist) but I wanted to be able to wear a sweatshirt underneath it if needed. It has a flattering cut so you can tell I have a waist. I shopped a long time to find a good quality rain jacket and this one exceeded my expectations. So happy I got it.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love the longer length for protection from the rain and wind, and the side zips allow a more roomy fit, or ventilation, if needed. Pockets are sizable to keep phone, keys, etc. dry, but I wish the hood fit a little more snug around the face to keep the rain/wind out a little better. Seems very durable, and well made, and I hope to wear it for years to come.
The underarm zippers are so stiff which makes it so uncomfortable, making the jacket poke into my armpits. Also, the hood adjusters to make the hood tighter around your face don't stay, and as another reviewer said, seem to have the adjuster parts inside the fabric of the hood. I don't understand them at all.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Jacket seems to run large. I usually wear a medium but ended up returing it and getting a small and was better fitting. Comfortable, like the zip up to arm pits. I haven't tried it in the rain but the seams look very well sealed.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This jacket was purchased for a trip to the Arctic, where waterproof clothes are critical. It's nice and tight in its fit and foldable to a small travel option. Just what I needed
Fantastic- Held up great in the rain while I was out on the trails today- my new go to
