Rated 4 out of 5 by from Yum! Great mix. Cooking couldn't be easier: just add a cup of boiling water, mix in separate container well, and cover for 13 min. Great instructions set for higher elevation camping. Add an extra 1/4 cup if you like potatoes mushier, they come cook nice and thick; really hearty. The mashed potatoes are awesome, and the cheese; ahhh, little pieces melt when you cover it. So good. Only reason for 4 instead of 5: The bacon, albeit tasty, can be a bit tough. More akin to jerky. *BUT* that may be because I was starving and only waited 8 min haha. Nice sized little squares. Overall I was very pleased with my purchase. Completely exceeded my expectations.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Needs more water Delicious flavor but it needs about 1/4 cup more than the 1 cup of water called for, and you have to mix it really, really well. We didn't, and ended up eating some powder mix with our potatoes (but we were too hungry to care, it was still yummy). Also, it says to add more time for every 5,000 feet of elevation. We were above 10,000 feet and just let it sit for the basic 13 minutes and it was fine (except for the beforementioned mixing problem).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good These turned out nice. I had no trouble with hyrdation. I would agree that the the 1/4 cup makes a thick dish and adding a ounce would hurt if you'd like. Overall makes a good side but could be eaten by one. I plan on getting again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect addition So, just purchased these for a camping trip I had this past weekend. We planned on cooking some nice steaks on the first night and we all agreed we wanted potatoes to accompany them. I grabbed 2 packs of them because wasn't sure on how much you acutally get. One pack is probably good for two people. We had nice solid steaks and only split one pack between the 3 of us. They tasted very good and wasn't disappointed. If you have ever had Instant potatoes and this is basically what you're getting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love this for breakfast! Increase the water by about a half a cup, definitely stir half way through the stated rehydration time, and this is golden for breakfast. Filling, flavorful, and fast. Perfection. Have had every morning for the last four trips totaling fourteen days.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good breakfast too Took a little more water than instructions called for (cooked at 5,600 ft) to get to desired consistancy. Taste was good, but could use more bacon (or is it "baco")... everything is better with more bacon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I crave these Might have been the end of a long day that played into this, but this pouch of mashed potato goodness was devoured by me and my boyfriend in seconds flat. Great taste.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Edible The amount of water called for in the directions seemed to be inadequate so I had to add more after cooking. Other than that, great as a side dish to my ribeye!

Are these packets really 2 servings?  Doing a solo trip don't want wasted food.

The Backpacker's Pantry Vegetarian Bacon and Cheddar Mashed Potatoes is 420 calories if you eat the entire package. If you are hungry, this is a single serving. As a side to other dishes, it is two servings.
