Great Bike Rack
This is the best bike rack I have ever had (3rd). I had the previous model Aero rack, but the integrated bike lock would no release, so REI ordered me the new model. I loved the last one, held the bikes while driving on a wash-board dirt road at 55 mph, hitting large sand holes. The new one is slightly improved. The hitch lock is really nice. The integrated bike lock is simplified and easier to use. Looks sleek and is extremely light-weight (reason I bought). Fits 2 mountain bikes snuggly. Probably best suited to road bikes with the horizontal bars. I have one men's bike and one women's bike (use frame adapter tube). I couldn't ask for a better rack.
Great rack
Bought an suv and needed a rack that would fit a hitch. This one is lightweight and can be folded down out of the way of the trunk. Very easy to use. Only negative comment is the instructions for use of the key lock is not very clear.
Good, but not the best
Just bought the Thule Helium Aero 2-bike rack and like many of its features, including: ease of installation and removal from my car, a Subaru Outback; locking features (although these could be negated with a couple of wrenches); solidness / lack of wobble and sway; and that I can lower the rack when loaded just enough to access my car through the tailgate. What I don't like is the amount of contact between bikes when 2 bikes are loaded. And this problem is exacerbated when the bikes are strapped tight to the rack's mast. I feel that this strapping feature is fairly primitive when compared with the other mechanical features of the Aero. Fortunately I have bikes, mountain and road, that are old and can be beaten up a bit. It will be fine when I'm transporting just one bike on the rack.
Excellent Bike Rack
We picked up this bike rack on a Monday and left Thursday to drive from Indiana to Colorado. A 3000 mile road trip, up and down mountains west of Denver and through a couple of rainstorms and the back rack performed admirably. It never worked itself loose, stayed securely attached, and allows access to the back hatch door of our SUV. I love the light weight, easy to install/remove, and built-in security features of this rack.
Easy to use bike rack
I took my new bike rack out of the box, and within about 15 minutes I had it installed on the hitch to my car. The unit is so light that it is hardly a chore to put on and take off of the vehicle. Another advantage is that the rack is secured to the vehicle by using a key to unlock a knob that you then tighten by hand. Thus, no wrenches are involved in your normal use. This rack comes with the adapter so that it can be used on either a 2-inch hitch or a 1.25-inch hitch.
Great carrier
I use this for my wife and my bike that are hybrid between mt. & street bikes with great success. Easy to mount and heavy duty for a lighter car rack. I like the lock features that help prevent theft of the rack and bikes. Only drawback is price but wait for an REI sale. This is a very sturdy rack that easily attaches to 2 inch or less hitch.
Great Rack!!
Love this rack! Easy to install and use. I did have to get the frame adapter for my small frame but it works great! If you have to remove your rack frequently you will love how light this is!
Thule rack--superb!
I loooove my new Thule 2-bike rack. It only weighs 18lbs, so this 69-year-old female can handle it with ease. Everything else about the rack is heavy weight--extremely stable and secure, ease of inserting and removal from hitch, quality and craftsmanship are what you would expect from Thule! All-in-all my rack makes me more independent and confident.
Stabilizer Destroyed 2 bikes
I purchased this a few months ago. At first I loved it, light, easy to install and all around very convenient. I took a trip a decent drive away from my home with my 2 bikes on my car. They rack performed well (a little tight for two bike but manageable). When I got to my destination I found that the vertical stabilizer had rubbed the paint off the tube down to the bare metal. I am super angry.
Exactly what I was looking for
I was looking for something that would be compact yet do the job and this is exactly it! Fairly easy to assemble on your own. Love the feature that allows you to tilt the rack in order to open the hitch. Sticks out from the vehicle a little more than I would have thought but this hasn't been an issue, more of something to be aware of. The locking features is what set it apart from other models I had looked at.
