This is my first official bike rack and it's been great so far for convenience and quality. I added the tail light feature and license plate mount and it doesn't disappoint. It lights up bright and shows off the plate well. I was unable to get the additional cable lock prior to my trip, but ended up getting Kryptonite chain locks and attached them around the frame of the bike and the rack, and then additional chain from bike to bike, which is actually a better idea for safety and security against theft in my opinion. Cables are easier to cut. I also enjoy the flip feature so I am still able to open the box of my truck no problem. As for the no locking up mechanism, I already figured that out with a ratchet strap and a small cushion. Peace of cake. I've been driving around the city where I am with the rack attached and folded in the up right position, no issues other than the extra few feet adding length to my vehicle. It's a bit more costly but
Bike trays could be a bit longer. Worked fine but my buddie's xl mtb was pushing the limits. Would like the ability to put a hardened screw thru the hitch to additionally lock the rack to the vehicle. The system as-is is very convenient but also easily defeatable. Wish there was a 4 bike version. Santu container could use more robust locking system. Beyond that the rack works great. Easy to get bikes on and off quickly. Folds up to a small package in the garage. Quickly folds in parking lots without a bike on the rack. Tilts fully loaded to open the rear of the vehicle. These features make the rack great for vehicle camping.
Needed to update my rear hitch, bike rack to accommodate the mountain bikes. I am so happy with this product. It’s easy to use secure easy to lock bikes on wish I bought it many years sooner although it didn’t exist at the time it’s a three car I’ve carried two bikes and a regular mountain bike, and worked like a charm highly recommend for regular bikes as well as bikes I have this on my Ford F150 pick up and I put a short extender on it. I know they don’t recommend this but it’s working fine and allows me to put my tailgate down and up without using the tilt feature. The tilt feature is very easy to use, which is also an option.
1. I needed a new bike rack for my 2 new eBikes (70 lbs each x 2=140 lbs total. 2. I wanted loading ramps since the eBikes are heavy So… I bought the Thule EPOs 2-bike rack Then… I exchanged it for the EPOs 3-bike rack Why you ask? So you load the first bike up the ramp and secure it. Works great! But… then you try to load the second bike up the ramp. Sadly… the distance between the bikes is only 9.5 inches so it is VERY difficult to load the second bike up the ramp. You have to lean the bike toward you as you walk it up the ramp, because the handlebars and pedals are colliding. And let me assure you, it gets dicey. And you have to pre-plan your pedal positions so you can raise the frame attachment arms. Solution: Buy the 3-Bike EPOs, even for just 2 eBikes. It is only an extra $100, it is easy to ramp load 2 bikes into the 1st and 3rd bike trays, it has 20 lbs more total capacity than the 2-bike, and it has a real 2” bar (the 2-bike EPOS has a 1.25” bar and an adapter on it to fit into a 2” receiver. EPOs would be the perfect rack if it folded up against the car when not in use, but it is high quality for sure. The optional ABUS cable lock that integrates into the EPOs is also sweet but REI does not offer it.
Thule Epos 3 is the hitch rack we have all been waiting for. Stores folded and compact, wheels to your car hitch, handles to easily put in place, unfolds for use with ease, telescoping arms with rotating grips to hold bikes in place at any point and from any angle, sturdy and strong enough to hold multiple ebikes, sleek stunning look, reflectors and compatible with light and license kit…Did I miss anything? Oh yeah, bikes roll on using accessory ramp. What else? Folds down with ease when fully loaded for rear gate clearance. Also folds up and away when not in use. Ok, it is expensive but in my opinion well worth it. Just a joy to use, pure joy. Thank you Thule, Thank you!!
Perfect choice for our e-bikes. We had the Thule Easy Fold previously and that worked well for many years but with a new child seat on the back of one bike and a paniers on the other, we thought the 3 bike rack would be helpful for spreading out our two bikes, leaving the center spot empty and hopefully prevent any further rub marks on the bikes. We also purchased the optional ramp which makes it easy for one person to roll the bikes up onto the rack and easily secure them.
This is an absolutely fantastic bike rack for those who don't want a rack on their car at all times. For me, this was important because I play a lot of sports and am constantly getting in and out of my trunk (of a compact SUV, a Mazda CX-5) for equipment, and I sometimes like to sit on the edge of my trunk to change shoes, etc. Although the rack is a little cumbersome to roll from the garage to my car, those 15 seconds of awkwardness are well worth the flexibility. The rack is VERY easy to put on the car and extremely stable in carrying the bikes--it even took a Specialized XL-sized eBike with ease. The design is compatible with fenders. The adaptability of the main clamp is impressive; I really think there's no bike it couldn't fit!
a great rack. easy to install. easy to store. holds 3 bikes easily!
Love this rack overall. Larger weight capacity, more convenient storing (foldable) and it has locks. Three primary boxes checked! I also like the accessories that are available, making this a very versatile rack! Opportunities: One issue is that it doesn't lock in the upright position when your bikes aren't loaded. (I usually leave my rack on my hitch from spring to fall. Not'ny more!) Granted, this "minus" is minor because it's simple to hitch and unhitch. I just assumed this would be a default feature on any hitch rack. Another observation is a narrower zone per bike. The distance tray-to-tray is on the EPOS is 9.5" vs 11.5" on my older T2 Pro XT. We have 2 e-bikes, which are pretty big. For this reason, we exchanged our EPOS for the EPOS 3. Now I'm happy!
Works on every kind of bike I've ever tried to work. It sits securely and keeps bikes from banging. Also, I verified Utah law and it does not violate that law though I would still recommend not leaving it on the car when driving around without a bike.
