Rated 5 out of 5 by from More important than shoes.... I spent a few days last summer on Shi Shi Beach, Cape Alava and above Sunrise Ridge, just north of Mt Rainier. The food we took was good enough, but there's NOTHING like rising just before dawn or sitting with the camera all night doing astrophotography and having a cup of coffee. Even better is having a GREAT cup. I would give this six stars if I could. Boil the water (single esbit tablet) and mix in coffee, how could it be more simple? Heading to New Hampshire's White Mountains next week and twenty of these are going along. If the pack is too heavy I'll toss out a compass and/or a first aid kit, the coffee stays!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Now going light doesn't mean bad coffee When camping, I do pour over with my favorite dark roast or medium roast coffee, just ground before leaving... or if really lazy, a good vacuum packed block of ground coffee. Takes up some volume for that gear and a Nalgene or block of coffee, but if car camping, no biggie. But for a backpacking venture or travel it was Nescafe in packets. I decided to give this a try - couldn't be 'worse', no? I've tried both the Italian dark and Columbian medium - both are simply great to my tastes. I use about 12oz of water compared to the recommended 8oz and the flavor is rich and full. Especially the Columbian really surprised with flavor. Now having to bring instant doesn't mean tolerating bad coffee.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Tasty and Easy The coffee tastes and smells great. Was concerned about grinds ending in my mouth but it's a very fine powder that totally dissolves into the water. Very smooth. The packets also take very very little space in your pack. I'll say for those who are willing to take the space to pack one in, its great in one of the small 10oz yeti cups. (I like to enjoy coffee slowly in the morning and the yeti keeps it nice and drinkable longer than any other cup I've packed) Otherwise just take your favorite drinking apparatus, pour in the coffee, and top it off with hot water and you're good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solves the Coffee Dilemma We have stopped packing bulky coffee making apparatus in favor of Starbucks VIA instant coffee. The single serve individual packets are virtually weightless and take up almost no space. All you need is hot water to enjoy a full flavored cup of coffee anywhere. Our preference is Colombian over the Italian Roast which is bit harsher. The convenience is worth the premium price, especially if on sale.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from At least Starbucks is consistent... bad. I quite honestly wouldn't drink at Starbucks back at home if it was free. HOWEVER this product tastes exactly as I would expect, has caffeine, and is extremely convenient. There aren't any of the chemical-y tastes like many of the other instant coffee. Unfortunately that sets the Via pouches leaps and bounds beyond any other instant coffee I've had.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't leave home without it In the era of ultra-lightweight hiking, this is one item I NEVER leave home without. You can skip on several different "amenities" to lighten the load however this is NOT one of the items you should leave at home. Sacrificing on a good cup of coffee in the morning for the sake of saving a few ounces isn't worth it :-)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Light, great aroma, perfect for kayak camping! My husband likes his coffee fresh, but limits it to 2-3 cups a day (1 cup decaffeinated); I drink tea. This is a perfect and economical option for camping, particularly kayak camping where weight and space are big considerations. A friend shared another brand of similarly packaged coffee with us -- the Starbucks tastes better, according to my husband, and costs more. But I get an added bonus -- this coffee has a great aroma! We usually get the Columbia, Italian and the decaffeinated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's coffee, duh! I live in a neighborhood where I can buy a variety of inexpensive asian coffees, cream already added, but there I was in REI and there it was, the little box of Via, just waiting for me at the checkout, so why not. Good coffee, but do they make one with cream added--I missed it.
