Clouds parted & angels sung
For funsies I read the 1 star reviews, pretty sure those folks just have bad taste. Saw this when shopping for something else and heard it softly whispering my name, figured if REI was carrying it then it probably didn’t suck. Definitely DOES. NOT. SUCK. Promptly returned after the camping trip to buy the store out. Sorta felt like a jerk not leaving any for anyone else, but, I’m putting that on Alpine Start for making such a good drink. I now have developed a slight addiction to the point that I’m actually drinking them at home, like, in lieu of ACTUAL chai from, say, Starbucks. Slightly worried I’m going to start just snorting lines of the packets, but it hasn’t reached that level of addiction yet. But do yourself a favor and grab a box for your next trip.
Love This Yummy Chai Mix!
I have to say that along with the Coconut Cream Latte, Alpine Start is seriously hitting it out of the park with their instant beverage game. After years of drinking depressingly bitter instant coffee I am SO overjoyed that we now have delicious options when backpacking! I like to bring the Dirty Chai along for when I don’t feel like coffee. It’s nice to mix it up a bit on long trips and having a nice hot chai on a cold afternoon is just the ticket. If I weren’t often drinking this above 7,000’ I wouldn’t believe it was instant!!
First Foray Into Instant Coffee...
And I am a new fan! I am not a coffee drinker.....or as a matter of fact, I used to be until caffeine really started to affect me adversely. After a few people told me how the caffeine in this product treated them, I figured I would give it a go. The flavor is exactly as advertised. There was a preconceived notion about what it was going to taste like and Alpine Start nailed it. The caffeine hit me exactly the way it is meant to. I am so excited to bring this on all of my adventures this spring and summer. I could not ask for a better pick me up drink than Alpine Start Dirty Chai Latte.
A special treat on backpacking trips
This was great! I was very pleasantly surprised by the flavor of this chai latte. It is definitely two steps above instant coffee :) As I read the low reviews, it occurs to me that there are folks who expect a chai latte to be sweet, a la Starbucks. If that’s you, you probably will not like this. I don’t put sugar in my coffee, so the little bit of sweetness in this latte was more than enough for me.
really bad
This has very poor taste compared to a dirty chai latte and almost feels gritty (even after stirring, there is quite a bit of sediment on the bottom if left to sit for a while). It's not sweetened in any meaningful way either. I couldn't finish this after preparing it per box instructions.
Definitely NOT chai latte
I'm a regular chai latte drinker so I think I know what I'm talking about when I say this does not taste anything like chai latte. Worse, it just tastes bad, at least to me. I took 2 sips and dumped the rest because I just couldn't drink it anymore
Don't be fooled by the name
I purchased this item on our way to big bend for a camping trip. It's definitely not a "latte". Not only is the texture of the drink bad, but so is the flavor. It's like dirty water with some weird flavoring. Disappointed because I was excited about the concept.
Yuck
Love dirty chai so I gave this a try on a backpacking trip. It didn’t taste good and it didn’t dissolve. Would not recommend.
Completely tasty and awesome
I was totally excited to try this out. My dog and I had hiked up and over two summits and then sat down to enjoy a cup of dirty chai latte on the third summit (well, me tried it not so much my dog). This dirty chai latte was SO darn good. I'm already dreaming about my next one. Side note - a little on the heavy side if you are an ultralight backpacker but maybe it could be saved for a special occasion.
Really awful taste and smell
Soy chai dirty lattes are one of my favorite morning drinks, so I thought this would be a great little treat while camping. Instead, it tastes like you put a star anise pod in some old cup of noodle broth and tried to make instant coffee with it. I could only keep drinking it because I added a packet of a better type of instant coffee. It’s way too expensive and practically undrinkable.
