Sizing Notes

Altra’s unique FootShape™ toe box and zero to low shoes are built to place your foot in a natural position, with a stable and confident foundation to run on. When fitting, be sure to allow a full thumb’s width in front of your toes. If your feet are used to cramped toe boxes, Altra shoes may feel a little big at first. Give your toes some time to get used to the newfound wiggle room.

Altra offers a range of FootShape fits:

Original Fit: The fit that started it all, Original is the roomiest of the 3 options from Altra.

Standard Fit: The most common fit from Altra is right in the middle of Original and Slim.

Slim Fit: The slimmest-fitting Altra option still allows room for your toes to spread out naturally.

IS THIS SHOE TRUE TO SIZE? The product Features above will provide a suggestion if Altra advises you to size up or down in this particular shoe. If no such note exists, please order your regular size.

Disappointed: not cushiony at all.

Not cushiony on inside as described, so why have so much material under the foot if it's just going to feel hard. No reinforcement over the big toe, just a thick stretch knit material, so it looks like a hole would form quickly. Sloppy fit compared to my previous Altras. I'm returning these. I used to love Altras before they were bought out, but they stopped making my favorites, have too few normal colors to pick from, and the quality has gone down. I'm finally giving up on Altra and leaving them in the past. There's a gap in the market to fill with toe shaped shoes of all types, including casual wear.

Not cushioned!

Hi stack height, but it is not cushion-y. I was looking to replace my Torin 4 Plush shoes that gave a cushioned run, for running on streets and sidewalks. Nothing had a high a stack height, not the cushion. These came out with extra stack height, but it was very firm and never softened up. Also, the toe of the shoe got dirty very fast and would never get clean again. Finally the Torin 7 came out and they are wonderful. I returned these and I’ve bought 3 pair of the Torin 7.

I love these shoes

I have challenging feet to fit--a crossed toe, pinned toes, not to my liking reconstructive surgery, damaged nerves from a hip replacement and so atrophied muscles in my lower leg and foot drop. There shoes are the only shoes I've found that fit comfortably and work with all my challenges. Unfortunately it looks like they are being discontinued and replaced with the Via Olympus 2 which do not work for my feet. So disappointing. But I love these shoes.

Too short

Toe box not as wide as described, too short. Heel is narrow and secure, which I liked.

Fantastic firm and supportive shoe!

I’m so grateful to have discovered the Via Olympus shoes in a Garage Sale corner of my local REI. I have arthritis in my toes, and these shoes have helped enormously to improve my comfort and lower my level of pain. Specifically, good fit around my small heel but a nice wide toe box, and the hi stack and firmness of the sole means that the shoes have little flex. For me this means I have sufficient support in the shoe alone that I do not need to wear my carbon fibre plates to help prevent my toes from flexing too much. (Note: I use these for walking; I’m not a runner.) Caveats: the soles are stacked but firm, which may not be what you’re looking for if you prefer a more cushiony ride. Also, their sizing is inexplicably waaay off. I am a 6.5 or 7 in most shoes, and yet an 8 in this model. Not a problem now that I know what to get, but worth ordering 1 to 1.5 sizes larger than your usual size if ordering for the first time. So sad this model is discontinued!
