I love this jacket!

I bought this jacket a while ago and have now used it in Sweden at temperatures of around 0 degrees Celsius. I'll start by saying that in my opinion this is not a jacket for really cold conditions. It has, as I understand it, synthetic padding on the shoulders and upper arms, and in these areas the insulation is not enough. I have several other Arc'teryx jackets that are warmer. Having said that, it is still a fantastically nice jacket that maintains Arc'teryx's top quality right through. It is, in my opinion, however, not the right jacket if the temperature goes down to minus 10 degrees Celsius. Then there are better alternatives from the same brand. But anyway, I really love this jacket.

Not warm enough for a Canadian winter

Overall the jacket is quite good. The fit and weight are excellent, making it very comfortable to wear. It also looks fantastic. However, it's got a glaring flaw: it's not all that warm. It's barely sufficient at -5 degrees celsius with a wind, let alone "severe cold". If I'm paying a premium price for a parka, it's reasonable to expect a higher degree of warmth. Fortunately, it's roomy enough that it's easy to layer, but it's still very disappointing.

Good value

I’m 5’10” and 150 lbs, and I bought the Arc’teryx Thorium SV Parka in Medium. The fit is great in the chest, back, and sleeves, with enough room to layer even my thickest hoodies. If you prefer a snugger fit, consider sizing down. The jacket performs well in -20°C weather—it’s warm and reliable. I appreciate the elastic cuffs, which work well with most gloves, and the hood provides excellent coverage without blocking my vision. The hand pockets are lined and warm, while the chest pockets are deep and practical for carrying items like my phone or wallet. My only critique is the interior elastic pockets—they’re handy but would be more secure with zippers. The length falls between the waist and knees, making it comfortable for sitting and driving. The stylish cut has also earned me a few compliments. Overall, this parka offers great value, especially at the sale price.

Super comfortable. Super warm. Great jacket!

I use my Thorium SV parka for casual wear, hiking and astrophotography. When it’s really cold outside I pair this with my Cardigan Fleece and can stay out all night shooting the night sky. I am very warm and the quality of the jacket, the comfort and versatility have made this my favorite cold weather jacket Can’t go wrong with this. A no brainer of a purchase.

Sold it!

I wrote a review a few weeks ago and would now like to follow up on it. I have now used the jacket daily in Sweden in temperatures around 0 degrees Celsuis. I have now become even more convinced that this is not a real winter jacket. All my other Arc'teryx jackets are warmer. But another problem is also that there is so little down in the baffles that there are areas that lack all insulation. You have to try to make the best of the situation and shake the fluff in place. If you sit on the jacket, it goes completely flat on the back and it looks like the baffles are collapsing. Then it takes a long time before the jacket looks nice on the back again. Now have finally managed to sell the jacket second hand for half the purchase price. I feel sad having to write this review because I am probably one of the biggest fans Arc'teryx has ever had and love every other Arc'teryx product I own. But this jacket was a real flop and now I lost a lot of money selling it.

go 2 sizes down and little down insulation for SV

This jacket is easily 2 sizes to big for anyone. For most products I. am usually a large size but for this jacket I run a small. also, the jacket is a SV jacket which means Severe Weather jacket but it has very little down insulation.

Nice jacket. Probably need to size down

Very comfortable and looks great. Seems to run slightly large (I'm 6'0, 180lbs and the Medium fits like a large normally would on me), but very happy with the jacket so far.
