Nice looking mug
The Klean Kanteen Rise Mug is definitely nicely designed. Several people have even commented on that. The foldable lid is really convenient. I've angled to be able to open the lid while holding the mug with one hand. When closed properly, no liquid spills out. Hot coffee stays hot. Cold water stays cold through out the day. The mug is lighter than other insulated mugs I have. The only problem I have is the handle. The handle looks nice, but bottom loop makes the handle slightly smaller and I have accidentally hit my knuckles against it. Another note with the handle, there is a small gap behind it and it makes it a little difficult to clean. Apart from the handle issue, I'm enjoying using this mug for my daily coffee and water.
Nice looking mug with a major design flaw
I really wanted to like this mug. I liked the colors (the finish looks great) and shape right out of the box. It's a bit lighter than other similar mugs from popular brands, which I also appreciated. But it has a major design flaw. The flip lid opening is too large. It's a challenge to regulate how much hot liquid comes out due to its size. But the bigger issue is the flip lid itself. If the mug has been storing hot liquid for any amount of time, droplets will collect on the lid. Once the lid id flipped open and locked into place, any drinking will result in a wet nose. I tried several times but there is no way to avoid getting those droplets on your nose while drinking. I'm not sure if this feature was tested or not but definitely seems like a major oversight.
Mug looking for a home
This mug wants to be useful in multiple environments but has features that make in less than ideal for the home and the road. It is very sturdy and the insulating properties are great. But the lid is a little funky - it is only splashproof, not sure what that means, but it definitely leaks. Every time I drink with the lid on, the lid touches my nose and gets drink on my nose. The base on the mug is too wide so it doesn't fit in cupholders of my car so it doesn't work for travel. Not sure where it is meant to be used.
Durable, but the mug and sip opening are too big
I have always wanted a camping mug and I’ve been shopping around and reading reviews for a while. So, when I had the chance to receive and review this mug, I was thrilled! I’ve had the mug for a couple of weeks and have just used it around the house. I haven’t tried it around the morning campfire yet. I say this is 3 stars because it is keeping my coffee hot and it’s durable. I love the color and the handle of the mug. I’ve used the mug a lot working around my house but and inside while I am working in my office. There are some things that bug me with the mug like the 14 oz. size and I feel like the opening is so wide that the coffee cools faster. I think I’ve gotten maybe 2 hours of hot coffee which is pretty good, but I’ve read it’s supposed to stay hot for 4 hours. I would have opted for a smaller camping mug and opening this thing to take a sip just feels like I am letting all the heated goodness out. I wouldn’t recommend this mug to a friend or family member.
Excellent for all occasions
I began using this mug for coffee on the go and cold drinks in the afternoon. I used it for everyday drinking in the city and weekend camping. I found the insulation tonbe sufficient and as advertised. My hot drinks stayed hot for a couple of hours and cold for as long as i needed it to. The look is cool and nice colors. The unique handle shape is a good idea just a little small to fit my hand comfortably but that didn't impact my use. I found this mug to fit my need for a sturdy cup for hot and cold drinks anywhere i might be from cookout to campout or coffee to cocktails.
Perfect camp mug for at home use as well
The mug is very beautiful and weighty. I love the feeling of the handle; it fits my hand perfectly. The lid is not leak-proof in the slightest; not sure if this a design flaw but it doesn’t “click” on
Perfect camp mug, but not great for daily use
I enjoy using this mug overall, but I wouldn't use it as a daily travel mug. The heat/cold retention performs as expected, I like the size and weight of the item, and it's definitely well-made. I also don't have an issue with the large opening, and I don't find that it cools hot liquids any faster than normal. It's the space above low levels of liquid that cools it down, and that can't be helped in any product. For iced drinks, I experience very little melted ice even with the cap fully off. The biggest bummer is that the mug just doesn't work well for traveling since it doesn't fit in a cup holder and is not leak-proof (so you can't just throw it in your bag). It is, however, a perfect camp mug. Nothing's campier than cradling a large mug by the fire, and its insulating properties make it super useful in the outdoors. It'll live in our camp box at least!
Kleen Cup
This is the third of this size cup in my cabinet. The lid is well designed and when closed completely prevents spills. I’d say it’s average at keeping drinks hot or cold. I love the color and the handle fits well in my hand.
A pretty good mug, with a so-so lid.
A pretty good mug with some caveats. It's a good size, with 14 ounces holding a bit of liquid. The mug itself is sturdy and well made, and it will probably out live you. It's also a good looking mug. I got the "asphalt," a grey/black color combo that looks awesome. The mug keeps beverages hot for awhile, as long as you keep the lid closed, and that is where we get to the biggest issue with the mug, the lid. The opening in the lid is almost half the size of the lid itself. Not sure why they made is so big, I guess it would be good if you were drinking a cold beverage, but as I said, if you don't close it after every sip, it cools down quick. Also, the mug definitely leaks around the drinking hole. I wouldn't even call it "leak resistant." If it tips, it spills. I would never try to put it in a bag, or anywhere I wouldn't want it to leak. Another thing with the lid is that the seal for the drinking hole collects liquid, be it steam or your beverage (or both), and then when you drink, deposits said liquid on the bridge of your nose. It's a bit annoying after a bit. Overall, I like this mug and think it would be good for sitting around the campfire, but I wouldn't use it while driving. The design is great, but the functionality of the lid leaves much to be desired.
Keeps Drinks Hot; Too Large for Car Cup Holder
This is a very good Klean Canteen mug! Aesthetically pleasing, fits in the hand nicely, and keeps drinks very hot. Great for camping, tailgates, or any activity with friends, and makes quite a statement. The main drawback of this mug is that it does not fit in any car cupholder, which is less than optimal for daily commutes. Despite this, would recommend!
