excellent winter boot
I’ve had these boots for a year now (they saw heavy use last winter) and they are an excellent winter casual boot. They are waterproof and decently insulated, not to mention not nearly as bulky and much better looking than most winter boots out there. Very comfortable footbed. The last they are built on is different from most other Oboz boots, which I find to run a bit short and cramped in the toes. I think these are true to size and very comfortable. Note these are not true hikers, and while they will handle trails just fine, I would not take them for anything technical and heavy duty as the leather is too soft and they lack the footbed rigidity, heavy-duty ankle support and insulation you may want in a more technical boot. They are, however, extremely comfortable for daily wear and I’d frame them more as a winter sneaker than a boot. Would definitely buy again if that is the intended use.

Too narrow.
These shoes are so narrow. I ordered a 10.5 (US) size, my normal is a 10. Oboz claims to make a “Wide” size but of course not in this style. Oboz suggested to take the shoe insert out for more room. That’s not why I purchased them. When I first discovered this brand all of the shoes they offered were wider. Now it seems they’ve changed to be narrow. Guess I’m trying Lowa Brand now.

Put them to the test!

Took a new pair on a winter trip to Japan to see the Sapporo Snow Festival. Boots kept my feet warm and toasty in single digit temperatures and they are much lighter than traditional snow boots. Continued to use them in the warmer temperatures of Kyoto and Tokyo and found them comfortable with no overheating. Now keep in mind that we walked an average of 25k steps per day over a two week period. These were awesome with literally no break-in period. Couldn't recommend them more!

Arches and style

Great right out of the box. I wear these 10 hours a day. Great arch, like Salomon used to have. Warm n dry! Easy to walk in. Comfortable fit.

Warm Well-Designed Mid for Winter Treks

Comfortable out of box. My first Oboz--and chosen specifically for low-mileage winter treks. Like the mid-height. Not worried about deep snow issues. Used only once so far in freezing temps but no snow (mud and rain). Feet were warm wearing only Sealskins as my mileage was low but I expected some watercrossings. One feature I really like is how the laces hold position somewhat even when untied--making it easy to slip them on in the middle of the night without the untied laces dragging through the mud. Boot soles easy to clean with larger lugs. Expect these to handle snowy terrain pretty well. Can't comment yet on the waterproofing until I get them in snow. Will upgrade to 5 stars if after use in snow they perform as expected.

Oboz Does It Again!

This is a killer urban snow boat (M10/grey). I've only had them for about a week but this is my second pair of Oboz (Katabatic Mid Waterproof Hiking Boots are my first pair) and I couldn't be more impressed by Oboz. From fit to function. I suspect these may be good for day hikes on less demanding trails - but who knows, the support is good but as a mid, it may not have the necessary support for gnarlier terrain. From an urban perspective, these things slay. Warm, comfortable, great traction. Fit's true-to-size. Noteworthy: The top looped two eyelets could become an issue if the laces fray - if they break that's a whole other issue. The laces do occasionally come out [of those looped eyelets] when I'm tying up but it hasn't been a significant distraction or downside.

Great for winter elements in a city

This is the first product review I’ve written but because this boot has been exactly what I was looking for (after a prolonged search) I figured I owed it to the boot and for others looking for what I was looking for. I was looking for a winter boot that could handle the winter elements but also be comfortable walking city sidewalks in those elements. I’ve found most winter boots are too firm for long walks on sidewalks, and most hiking boots can’t handle the cold, snow, or ice. These boots are as comfortable as my tennis shoes but handle the winter elements like a big winter boot. I live in Minnesota and have worn these boots over the last 2 months on my nightly dog walk- I’ve worn them in -5 (-20 windchill), in snow (around 6inches ), in rain, and on serious ice. My feet have not gotten cold or wet once (I wear a regular cotton ankle sock). And they really are comfortable. I got them for my dog-walks but I’ve ended up making them my default shoe too- they are that comfortable. I think most legit hiking boots are not particularly stylish, these are not an exception, but they don’t look too bad for going out in public casually. I have only worn them for 2 months, so we will see how long they hold up, but as for everything else these are great winter walking boots for the city. I will note that I haven’t worn them on any serious hikes. Also, the laces stay tied without a double knot— other hiking boots I’ve owned never seem to be able to do that. Hope this was helpful!

Versatile, light, and warm enough

These boots are warm enough for most conditions. They are excellent for tracking through light snow and slushy conditions. Many winter boots are hard to put on and quite heavy. The lace system on these boots is simple and they are really lightweight. The sole is like a snow tire composition and provides secure grip. These boots were worn a lot this winter. They surpassed my expectations and I’m so happy to have purchased them.

Not just footwear, but an experience

These boots are an experience and not just footwear. Breaking in these Oboz boots is a pleasure. I've used them only around town while attempting to assist my neighbors in cleaning up from hurricanes Helene and Milton within two weeks os each other. The ground that I walked upon went from almost dry to saturated. The boots did well in both environments. I bought the boots to replace a pair of well made boots that had worn out after eleven years of use before I went on my trip of a lifetime to Antarctica. I'm looking forward to wearing my new Oboz boots.

Love REI’s return policy

Love my Oboz Sawtooth boots so when I needed insulated hikers I bought the Andesites. Unfortunately the O fit inserts pressed uncomfortably into my heels. I also went up a half size to allow for thicker socks but they were still too tight in the toe box even with regular socks. Had to exchange for a different brand.
