These are amazing shoes - if you enjoy a wider toe box and also need a more standard to narrow mid-foot/heel fit (as say compared to an Altra Olympus) then you will love these. 1000 miles on 3 pair on the PCT over the last two years. Excellent.
I bought these in February-ish to evaluate them for use on the Camino, then walked in them daily during May and June on the Camino Frances. They lasted very well for the 500 miles between St. Jean and Santiago over a variety of surfaces including dirt, pavement, asphalt and scree. The treads might have lasted another 100-200 miles but I decided to get back into my street shoes and shed the weight in Santiago de Compostela.
This shoe is great! I walk my dog 5 miles a day and this shoe has held up perfectly! The Vibram sole is durable and the heel doesn't wear out like every shoe I've ever owned. Also, there is plenty of room for my toes....Great Shoe
Comfy shoe on rocky, dry trails. I feel like the toe box could be a tiny bit wider to accommodate toe splay, but these worked great straight out of the box on a sweaty, 20 mile trail run. Would love a bit more toe protection- I kicked a few roots and really felt it, but the ride was great. These seem to have a bit more cushioning than the other model of trail shoes, which is great for rocks.
I purchased these in stone/navy along with five other Topo models (two Road, four Trail in total) to compare, after a positive fit experience in the store. I’m impressed with the consistently comfortable fit, although these Ultraventure 2’s weren’t quite as toe roomy as the other, all more recent models I tried. Fit is a very individual experience, so that’s not the one star deduction reason. No, that’s because the red Vibram soles consistently squeaked on both shoes. Maybe that would dissipate with time, wear and dirt (these were returned without any use outside the house). It’s worth saying that the two models I DID a keep, Ultraventure 3 and MT-4, have not shown ANY noticeable sole wear after a month of daily use, switching back and forth between them and certainly no squeaks from their black Vibram soles.
I use these for hiking, not running. As a light weight hiking shoe they are great, with enough structure to stay locked on your feet in uneven footing and with excellent dry traction. I have only used them a few times in wet conditions, but so far traction has been very good in wet/muddy conditions. At about 100 miles they are holding up great, still nearly new.
I could not try these on at the store as they don't stock them there; so, I ordered them on-line. When I got them, they fit fine in the mid-foot but are loose in the heel. The toe box is wide, but it is wide in a way that really doesn't help anything and seems more for looks than function. I am planning a 160 mile hike and don't think these are up to the task for me. I don't recommend them for serious long distance hiking.
I have been searching for a trail runner that works for me for a while. I have tried the Hokas, Altra, Obos and they all had some issues. The Ultraventure works well for me as they have the same wide toe box as the Altras, however, the are a little studier in the "waist" of the shoe and my foot does not slip in them when I am hiking downhill.
great footwear. if it fits you well, the entire range-of products will fit you well..
Shoes appeared to b well constructed, ordered size 13, my regular, however, didn’t fit, too tight. Rather than return I gave them away.
