Just purchased this great set. .
I recently purchased this avalanche set and I’ve already used it in the backcountry to great success! We experienced a small slide up on Mount Hood, where one of our fellow skiers was stuck in the avalanche. We used the beacons as a training exercise why one of our fellow skiers helped our friend dig out. The Beacon worked perfectly, and although we didn’t need to use the probe, the shovel was a great help. I feel like this was a great purchase and can’t believe I needed it as quickly as I did thanks black diamond.
Perfect Set
The Transfer shovel sets up fast and is light and strong. The Quickdraw probe deploys quickly and locks into place much more easily than my old probe from another manufacturer. The Recon X beacon is super intuitive. The updated harness is comfortable and makes access to the beacon easy. I've tested all of these elements in frequent rescue training and I feel confident in this equipment.
Great kit for getting started and getting out there, safely!
All three components seem well constructed and hold the BD name and quality. The shovel is fairly lightweight and the expandable handle is a huge plus. Quick draw on the probe is great, and the included chest harness for the beacon is a must. Only gripe would be with the batteries remaining in the beacon upon shipment/storage in the warehouse. Overall, highly recommend.
Great tools for a worst case scenario
Review based on a backyard assessment of the avy tools. They seem well made, compact, and lightweight. If/When I have the misfortune of needing to use them, I'll come update my review if necessary. In the meantime, it is reassuring to have quality Black Diamond gear on my back I know I can depend on.
Great set
Just can't go wrong with these sets, shovel and probe are easy to open and use. The beacon is our preferred version as we have tried others. I don't get out as much as my husband, he has the Guide version, and we are very happy with both!
Hopefully never have to use it
I love BD equipment so there's no other brand I'd trust when it comes to AVY safety. This is my second time purchasing avy safety equipment from BD and so far it operates perfectly without any issues.

Very happy with my purchase! The equipment is all pretty solid and is what I expected. The package arrived a week earlier than the estimated shipping day, so I was very happy with that.
Great Setup!
The beacon itself is intuitive and easy to use. The shovel and probe are lightweight but feel strong to this point. I have only used the shovel for digging a few pits to this point.
Complete package
First impression is easy to use good quality. What I expected from BD! Beacon is straight forward on setup. Hoping to get out for some training this weekend!

Has the right stuff at the right price. Metal shovel, BCA becon and solid probes. Couldnt ask for more
