Mammut Barryvox upgrade

Ease of use and familiarity! I upgraded a pair of Mammut Barryvox Elements and these are a simple upgrade. I just completed my AIARE 1 course and used my new equipment and am super excited about the upgrade. Originally, I was just looking at replacing my beacon, but the entire kit matched the price of a beacon, so I ended up with a new probe and shovel in the process. My old Element really consumed the batteries compared to the new beacon.

Intuitive System

I ordered this set for my 11 year old daughter during a friends and family shopping opportunity on ExpertVoice. We’ve been tinkering with the beacon this summer and it’s very intuitive and simple for her to use but is still very accurate. Definitely a great system for someone new to backcountry winter activities. We are researching professional instruction classes for her and I this fall as Dad could definitely use a refresher.

Great package for the price

I love the functionality of every element in this package. The beacon is very simple to use and the harness is very useful. Everything looks like it works great. I gave 5 stars because everything was just as described, the only thing I would change about this is I didn't know that I would want a more collapsible shovel. I wish the shovel handle would get shorter so that I could more easily fit this in a backpack.

Great deal

Bought this as a starter kit a couple years ago and thankfully have not had to use the beacon in a real situation. I have experience with other brands of beacons in practice and this is by far my favorite. The buttons are big and easy to toggle, even with gloves on, and the interface is very easy to follow. The shovel and probe are good quality too, especially for the price. Highly recommend.

Great deal for a well built kit

While this set isn't the lightest, it comes at a great price-point with what feels like bulletproof construction. Barryvox 1 is easy to use and looks sleek. I think the shovel works well but is definitely heavy, also a hoe function is something I found myself looking for at times. The probe is great and deploys really quickly, the bright coloration makes it easy to see and find in the pack.

This is my first set of avy gear, and it was so easy to set up and use right out of the box. The Barryvox beacon is easy to use when I’ve done practice with it, luckily haven’t needed it to fulfill its purpose. As a beginner, if you’re going to explore the backcountry snow this set is easy to use and seems to be effective for basic use. Make sure the shovel head fits your pack!

Great beginner avalanche safety kit at a reasonable (when discounted) price. I put great trust in Mammut's quality and functionality having sourced much of my climbing gear from them. Equally confident in this barryvox kit. Excited to use it on an upcoming backcountry trip and practice my newly devoured AIRE 1 learnings!

I've only tested this for a handful of single-day touring trips. It works great. Compared to other beacons of my friends, this one and the black diamond equivalent are by far the simplest, with easy-to-understand graphics. Shovel is fine. Recommend potentially upgrading to a hoe design. Way easier to dig tough stuff with.

I really like the interface on the Barryvox. It is intuitive and quick to read. I also like that there are some additional features like a "turn around" indicator if you're following the field line the wrong way. It helps while learning. The probe is quick to deploy, the shovel is a medium size and fits nicely in a pack.

I bought this as a backup kit for a big trip and have only used it in a beacon park. That being said, I was super happy with everything in the package! The probe’s speed lock system took a little getting used to, but isn’t a problem. Everything worked straight out of the box.
