Upgrade time!
I used a Barryvox for my AIARE I avalanche course in the Tetons. Despite only a short usage period and limited deployment in a practice search, I preferred the Barryvox over my old Tracker DTS. The Barryvox is more compact and has a nicer harness system than my old beacon, and the digital screen is a huge step up from the LED direction indicator on the DTS. I especially liked the group check function on the Mammut, which made verifying the beacon signals on my ski partners quick and easy.
impressive
Had this demoed in an avalanche class with 11 participants. Had peeps, tracker 2 and tracker 3 among the participants and our guide had the Mammut beacon. The range of the Mammut was way better than any of the other brands - more than double, more like tripple of our rented tracker 2s, and about twice of the rest. My life deserves the Mammut! Disclosure: I neither work for REI nor am I affiliated with any of the mentioned gear manufacturers.
Idiot proof
When my new barryvox arrived, I turned on my old beacon and put it out in the yard. Then I opened the barryox package. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it comes with batteries. So WITHOUT looking at the instruction manual, I was able to completely set the thing up (including the harness), and use it to search for my old beacon in the yard. I went right to it. Perfect! Nice to see a product that can be successfully used right out of the box, without study. NOTE: This was an experiment on my part. I have, and you should, read the instructions, take the AIARE courses, and practice practice practice.
Simple to Use and Has Great Range
I've used this beacon for 3+ years and have used it recreationally and while being tested during professional avalanche courses. As an avalanche educator and splitboard guide, I use my beacon almost every day. The Barryvox is dependable and simple to use. I've had zero issues with using it and its range consistently beats those of other transceivers. I think this is one of the best beacons a recreational backcountry user can use. As a professional, the Barryvox S has features than can really help in complex rescue scenarios. But, for non-professionals, the Barryvox is a great beacon and will be for many years to come.

Best Avalanche Beacon
Mammut makes the best avalanche beacons and the new Barryvox is the fastest and easiest to use. Watching people struggle with a slow Pieps or inconsistent Tracker seems silly. This beacon has a huge range, easy display and consistent marking feature. Worth the little extra money.
Awesome Beacon!
I swapped to this from BCA Tracker 2 so was quite a bit of an upgrade. The range seemed a bit further than my old tracker 2, maybe 20 feet or so. I appreciated the form factor as it was much easier to slip in and out of a pocket or case, which can mean a lot in bad situations. The toned beeps that increase in pitch were super helpful so I didn't have to constantly look down at the beacon when performing a search. I felt super confident in the switching mechanism between transmit and receive. Was easy to swap between both, but requires pushing down a button first to change the switch position. Haven't had to use it in a serious situation yet (hopefully won't have to!).

Reliable and user-friendly but difficult to update firmware
I love it, and the Barryvox beacons have a reliable reputation, which is the most important thing to me when purchasing a potentially life-saving device. They interface and buttons are pretty intuitive and easy to figure out for the user. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because you need to take it to a Mammut dealer for firmware updates -- you cant update it at home. This is difficult for people who live very far from towns and outdoor shops or work in the field for long bouts with limited access to town. Otherwise, I loved this beacon so much after using it for work, that I sold my personal beacon from another brand and bought a Barryvox for personal recreation use.

Excellent design, easy to use beacon
This beacon is very user friendly, has a long battery life. It comes with a chest holster that is secure and easy to take the beacon in and out of. It also comes with an elastic tether so it doesn't accidentally get dropped while searching. I recently used this beacon during my AIARE level 1 avy course and it was very quick and accurate at detecting other beacons during rescue compared to other branches. The beacon stays locked on whatever mode you turn it to, no issues with it accidentally switching settings. It handles multiple burials well too. I wear it whenever I'm in the backcountry or in bounds skiing on days with high avalanche risk. I very highly recommend this beacon!

Solid, intuitive.
I've been very happy with the overall design of this product. I appreciate that there is a mechanical locking-feature between the toggles for TX --> RX and from TX --> OFF, and that the retaining strap on the included chest harness also covers the mechanical unlock as yet another backup against accidentally switching to off or to Search. The display is simple but intuitive. In my AIARE 1 course, among the maybe 10 different devices, this was the one that stood out from the pack and was also the device being used by our instructors. My only recommendation to MAMMUT would be that they add a 2nd buckle on the chest-mount so that the user can put on or remove both straps without removing any layers.

Barryvox avalanche beacon
The Barryvox is a great product that is easy to use and reliable. The Barryvox is a highly capable beacon that a novice user can easily operate. The directions on the screen are large and simple to follow. Excellent range, a highly accurate processor, and an easy-to-understand interface allow for speedy single-burial searches. The three-way switch is easy to operate, even one-handed, and doesn't require any fiddling to lock it into place. Its few features are right at your fingertips, and it doesn't require an app to access or adjust any settings — in fact, it has no settings to adjust.
