I wore the original mqm and loved them, got these to replace those, and have worn them for 3 hikes. Unfortunately I'm going to have to throw them out. I always wear the same size Merrells but these are small with a very different shape than my other Merrells and crushed my toes together. The main fabric is some kind of backpack or tent material that is tough and unyielding, and won't stretch at all as I walk. It feels hot. They are also starting to come apart at the toe bumper and along the sides where the fabric bonds. They sides of the shoe are totally scratched up somehow and they look terrible. For me the traction was still good because I use them in mostly rocky hilly terrain and not on soil, and I like the way I can still feel the terrain through them, but that's the only good thing about this version. It's really frustrating because I loved the others so much for hikes with rock scrambles, but these are just unusable and a wasted purchase.

I really wanted to like these. I’ve given them a few months and many hikes and I do not like these. I like the funky color fuchsia and burgundy. Every time I wear these I roll my ankle. I haven’t had serious injury yet but I’m afraid to wear them because the hard rounded part at the front of the shoe rounds it out and any time I’m hiking I roll my ankle. I bought these a few months back with a pretty good discount. I was so excited to upgrade because I absolutely love my MQM 2 gore-tex flex connect in the color fruit punch (please bring those back!). Also, the waterproof material doesn’t allow for my shoes laces to stay tightened. They slide around as well as the tongue doesn’t stay in place. I can’t really wear these new MQM 3 gore-tex and would not recommend these to my hiking buddies.
I bought the fuchsia in June to take to Germany for hiking in the alpine regions. I cannot believe how comfortable they are. I have been looking for years for shoes to replace my now long gone Montrail trail runners that I used to hike in Arizona about 15 years ago. I have bought so many other brands and even this brand over the years and none were as comfortable. Great arch support and I like that the toe box is not big. I like the feel of my foot being snugly encased and not sliding around in a huge toe box. They have grippy soles. I will get another pair because I'd hate to have the shoe redesigned next season and not be the same. I am a size 6.
I hesitated to order online but my 2 year old Merrell slip-on boots with Vibram soles are so comfortable that I ordered the same size in these shoes. They fit perfectly with a toe box that is comfortably deep and wide. I love the bright colours and they are lightweight for travel. They arrived 48 hours after I ordered them.
I bought these shoes to take on a walking trip along the coastal paths in Cornwall, England. They performed extremely well, giving my feet the support they needed while traversing difficult terrain. After many days of hiking, they look like new and feel like old friends. Thanks, Merrell!
These shoes are very light weight and super comfortable to wear for a long period of time! True on size. I got a size 7.5 and they fit perfectly! They are very stylish and look very nice! Definitely recommend!
This is my ninth pair of MQM’s Gor Tex. I hike over 100 miles a month mostly North Carolina but some Tennessee, Virginia, South Carolina. And have used them in Ireland, Kauai, Utah, and Colorado. This shoe is so excellent. It is light with a very grippy soul, it never needs to be broken in. They are comfortable from the first time you wear them. And most importantly, they last me more miles than any other shoe I’ve ever tried. I can get between 600 and 800 miles out of these shoes.the Gor Tex is wonderful, I go through creeks all the time and always have dry feet!
I bought this shoe several months ago. I am back for another pair so I have them in case they stop making this style. This is the most comfortable hiking shoe. No break in time...have hiked many times in them with total comfort. Light weight keeps my feet cool. I have a pair of solomon's, hiked in them for years, too hot on my feet, would actually make me feel over heated because no hood ventilationfor my feet! Love these. Honestly I stayed away from Merrell for years because they always ran too narrow for me and all day hikes...but these are the best ever!
Just as other reviewer mentioned, despite of being "true to size", the heel openings are wider than other models. I have narrow heels so these shoes ended up slipping a lot on every step with the lace being fastened. I ordered my usual size, the length is fine, going a half size off might solve the heel slipping problem but the length will be too short. So overall these are just a very poor fit for me. For someone who have wide heels these shoes are in very good value.
I had the previous generation of these trail shoes and logged a lot of kilometres in them. The new version have some significant differences. The toe box is squarer, the sole is more rigid, and the colourway is different. That said, having now worn them on several hikes, they still provide the same lightweight support, solid grip on wet and icy surfaces and waterproofing. I don't love them as much as the MQM 2s, but they are still solid hiking shoes.
