Two accidents convinced me it’s a great product
This helmet saved my head twice in 14 months (yes, I replaced after each ac ident). I was hit by car the first time then had a bad spill that put me in intensive care for three days. In both cases I broke bones (lots in the second one) and in both cases my helmet was damaged but in both instances CT scan showed no impacts to my brain I was 75 and 76 respectively when these accidents occurred. I am still riding and was within a month of my second accident took a bike trip in Nova Scotia. The third of these helmets was on my head on that trip and every ride since. I won’t bike without it.
Nice helmet
Super comfortable and secure fit with the boa system. Pricier than most of the others i tried on but the fit and features feel worth it. As the box says, “You only get one brain” :)
Great helmet but don't trust the light mounts
The helmet itself is fantastic. Lightweight, breathable, comfortable, highly rated in crash tests, and super visible. However, one of the major selling points to me were the forward and reverse light mounts. Along with the helmet, I spent about $100 on lights to go with it. Unfortunately, the magnetic mount for the front light was not secure and after just a few months of use, it detached while I was riding so I lost both the mount and a fairly expensive light. Just glad I didn't have my GoPro attached at the time! If you're just looking for a fantastic helmet, this should serve you well. But don't buy it for the light mounts!
Incredibly comfortable fit!
This is hands down the most comfortable helmet I've ever worn. It fit perfectly the second I put it on. (Crossing fingers) I haven't tested the impact resistance on it yet, but it receives good crash ratings so I trust it. Also, I always wear a skull cap underneath my helmets to keep the sweat out of my eyes, so I can't say for sure yet how well the ventilation works on this (although it does feel a little warm even in this early season weather), but I'll have to ride it a few times without the cap to see how it feels. Either way, I love this lid. I almost forget it's on my head because it fits so well. Highly recommend!!
Great Features, but Imcompatible with Sunlasses
I found this helmet’s fit really great and loved that it has a BOA brand-name tensioner in the retention system (In case you don’t know, BOA will send replacement parts out for free). The magnetic BLENDR mount was also great and I even 3D printed my own headlight mount to work with it. Ultimately I returned the helmet after a handful of rides because the retention straps that run over the ears were always batting with my riding glasses and constantly pushed them forward off of my nose. This was only apparent when I was in a riding position (drop bar bike) due to “scrunching” in my fairly thick neck, so your results will vary. The retention system has three vertical adjustments which were quite difficult to change (I was afraid the plastic would break trying to release the detent position), and none of those positions remedied my problem either. The lesson is to evaluate helmets in their true use state - with glasses if you prefer and in your typical riding positions. I still like the product, I just can’t benefit from the features myself.
Comfortable, safe, and functional
This is my third Circuit WaveCel, the second of this model. I ride 360 / 365 days a year commuting in Washington, DC and road riding. The first one “aged-out” having served its time well. The second (the first of this model) absorbed a massive impact (endo on a paved bike trail due to careless patchwork in the pavement), which left a left a two inch dent in the helmet — not my head. I was slightly outside the one-year crash replacement guarantee, but I gladly purchased another. All three of mine have been high-vis yellow. I love the functionality — I’ve used (and use) the Bontrager headlight and rear helmet light to augment lights on bike — and the ventilation. There are probably lighter helmets on the market, but none that offer the combination of comfort, safety, and functionality. When the useful life ends for this helmet, you can bet I’ll be the proud owner of a fourth Circuit WaveCel.
excellent helmet, very safe, well worth the money
Fits well. In particular, it fit my own particular head much better than the others that I tried. Very safe, which means it's a bit heavier than my old helmet, though worth it. This one was more highly rated for safety than the comparably priced, comparably safe MIPS helmets (according to the best rating site, that is, the Virginia Tech helmet safety test lab). Quality very high, and everything works exactly as it should. The WaveCel technology blocks some of the air flow.
Hot as blazes and heavy
I bought the helmet because it had multiple impact protection and was hi-viz. It fit well, but I found it to be heavy as a road helmet, which I’d due to the sheer amount of plastic material contained in the WaveCel corrugated filler. While the weight is not a deal-breaker because we can get used to it, I found the complete lack of air circulation was not acceptable. Again, it was the WaveCel material that presses right against the entire scalp that was the cause of the poor air circulation. I tried the helmet on one cool spring ride and despite needing to double up with a warm long sleeved jersey and knee-warmers, my head was hot. Warm and hot weather riding will be unbearable.
No "fit" for the road
This is honestly a great helmet for some - it wasn't for me. Here's why: I bought this specifically for road-biking. While MTB is my passion, I log a significant, to me, number of road miles during the week, especially during "winter". This helmet fell short for fit on the road for me because it rides pretty low on my head. With my head canted upward, the back ratch area was significantly uncomfortable enough at the back my head/neck while the front was annoyingly still in my line of sight. Kind-of a no-win situation because I couldn't adjust it more forward or more backward and just "live with it". I returned it, and sadly unbeknownst to me, because I actually wore it when actively riding, it goes into the scrap heap. I hate to have REI penalized so heavily for this, but had no choice. In the future, I'll certainly "mimic" the real ride position as much as possible before getting out to make sure that this doesn't happen again.
2nd time purchasing this helmet, cracked my 1st one which did its job in a crash.
