Good shoe, but the toe box is not as roomy as past versions. Ride and transition feels good. Use as my everyday trainer or long run shoe. Somewhat heavy but fresh foam sole feels good under foot.
Usually when I go through a change in running shoes I have a week or 2 with random hot spots in my feet or knees. Not the case with the Vongo V5, laced them up out of the box and ran with no issues at all. Have probably always needed a shoe with more support but found alot of the options out there too clunky and hard under foot. Vongo is the perfect balance of support and cushioning whilst putting a nice little spring in your step to keep you rolling forwards. Feel light on the foot, again not a feature you necessarily associate with shoe designed for those who pronate. Upper is like a sock, very stretchy and breathable. Would definitely buy again
Well cushioned shoes that offer my flat feet the support they need. Great fit in upper, especially the heel-which is not the Ultra Heel found in the neutral 1080 v11. If your foot is wider than a "C" width, you might need the Wide sizing, as the standard width (D) just fits my "C" width foot. Overall, a great premium cushioned stability shoe!
I am a 12.5 with very narrow, practically flat feet and a .5" halux bump on the top of my left toe joint and no real pronation issues. I am no longer a runner but a walker. For the past decade I have been in Hokas and Topos and thinking of moving away from them. I have been testing the waters with various NB Fresh Foam models. This is the best fitting and most natural feeling NB I have experienced so far. The toe-off is smooth and energetic. No issues with heel slippage. The toe box upper is soft enough and roomy enough to accommodate my halux bump without irritation. I'm sold. And I'll be purchasing Vongos as long as they keep feeing this great on my troublesome feet.
Bought these as an everyday run shoe having several other NB trainers already they are Softer than the 860's but I find the 860's a much better fit and much more comfortable to run in. I also prefer the 1080v11 although they are not a support shoe and meant to be for natural gate they fit better and feel slightly more cushioned / soft on impact. Well made - like all recent NB shoes will likely need to buy at least 1.5 size bigger, unsure why but this is the case recently - I've heard it might be because they are now being manufactured somewhere different. Great range of colours available - particular like the green colours and the purple. Will be great for long walks and soft and spongy. .
I'm a big over-pronator and wear orthotics in my regular shoes. I've tried a range of different structured runners such as Brooks Adrenaline and Nike Structure. The Vongo is easily the most 'structured' - that is you can really feel the build up on the inside of the foot. First couple of runs gave me sore achilles and tight calves as it felt like running with my orthotics in, but foam rolled them out and now 40km into the shoes I'm very happy with them. I'm alternating with the Adrenalines and thats working well. Like the construct too - stretchy uppers and nice colour combo...
I took a chance on these July 2022 and am really pleased with them, today thought I'd buy a second pair. I paid $78.80 then, now $ 150,00.
I'm always after something very specific when switching running shoes, so I can be a little hard to please. I require support for significant over-pronation, a lot of cushioning to reduce impact on joints, a good heel to toe drop to reduce stress on my calves and shins, and a wider fit offering a more natural toebox fit. With all that being said, I have been really impressed with my Fresh Foam X Vongo v5's - they're my second pair of New Balances and I am starting to think New Balance offers some of the best cushioning out there! I have only taken a star off as I do think the extra width sizing is a little inconsistent - my last pair were a perfect fit and these ones are a little narrower around the toe box so aren't quite as comfortable and may cause issues for longer runs.
After about 3 weeks I've had to buy a different pair& brand as I can't continue with the shoes. The problem is my foot was slipping inside the shoe. The midsole upper did not cradel my foot well enough. I'd notice hot spots on the sole of my foot when I was running and it was friction, usually this would appear when going up hill but it also occurred when cornering or or uneven pavements, I could also feel my foot moving in the shoe. I tried to compensate and tie the laces tight, runners style but this led to the top of my foot developing sore points from the laces so eventually I had to unloop the two top laces altogether until the bruising there settled. As far as I know my feet are regular width, I can't be the only one to find this. On the plus side the shoes are well made and the sole is cushy.
Always used the 860 but decided to try these. I normally get a wide fit so I did again with the Vongo. They are far too narrow and I've had pain in my left foot beneath big toe since I started wearing these. I now have a bulge and inflammation in the foot which looks like a bunion but 3 doctors have said it's not and it's inflamed and caused by the shoes. Terrible experience for the price and will be difficult for me to trust new balance again and so many years of good shoes.
