Shoulder insulation has migrated downward
I was in love with this jacket last when I first bought it halfway through last winter (comfy, stretchy, warm), but this winter it appears the shoulder insulation has migrated downward into the sleeves, leaving the shoulders nearly uninsulated and cold! I am super bummed because this was a really expensive coat for me and I had planned on it being my last for a long time. The sewed lines need to be closed to hold the down filling captive in the shoulder areas, instead of allowing it to move downward with gravity. I treated this jacket very carefully too since it was a huge expenditure for me. I have tried to scoot the down back up the sleeve but it just didn’t work. I am going to try to add some kind of insulation to it but it just sucks because for this amount of money I shouldn’t be having to attempt fixes after half a season. If I could return it I would. It’s almost perfect other than this major flaw, please fix the design Mountain Hardware!
Great jacket
Love the jacket. Lots of room… I wear a medium and it fits perfect with some room to layer. Put fall… stains easily and shows. I walk dogs, hike and live and active life in the cold. A jacket that stains easily is not good, especially at this price. Will keep, but not happy!
This is the Best Winter Parka Ever
Outstanding fit, comfort, and warmth for a Minnesota trip with temperatures varying from windy teens (RealFeel 10°) to humid 40's. The sizing is generous enough to accommodate a bulky sweater, while the stretch fit keeps away any gaps or drafts. Gorget-style neck means no need for a scarf when zipped, and the hood fit doesn't block visibility. The length and hip coverage is fantastic. The heathered gray color is versatile, and the cut is flattering - it doesn't look like sportswear. This coat is very lightweight for its size. It packs down nicely in a backpack and can also function as a comfy lap blanket for air travel. Water resistance not yet fully tested, but blowing snow didn't leave any dampness. Zippers operate smoothly. Only complaint is that there's no interior insulation or reinforcement in the hand pockets, just the thin nylon jacket liner. While they're warm enough while the jacket is zipped, I'd be concerned about durability.
Poor quality
This jacket is quite warm and comfortable and I’ve enjoyed wearing it this winter. However, the down fill has completely disappeared from the shoulder area! It was new this season and hasn’t been washed. It’s still okay on mild days but no longer warm enough on colder days because there’s no more warmth on the shoulders than a flannel short would provide. Also, the shell is thin and fragile. It doesn’t snag, it rips! Definitely not worth the price.
Great quality, perfect length, and sleeves are long enough. I’m 5’8” and 140lbs - the medium fits perfectly.
I’m so glad I pulled the trigger before these were sold out!
Wearing In Michigan
5'1", Measurements 36-26-39, 120 lbs. Ordered size medium, perfect fit, 2" above knee, perfect sleeve length, room for layering or sweater. Beautiful color: Dark Storm Heather. Light weight, roomy, comfortable hood and collar, high quality 2 way zipper, well placed large deep side zip pockets, roomy inside zip pocket, nearly hidden exterior bonus pocket next to Mountain Hard Wear logo, collar/hood toggles, hemline side toggles, well finished inside seams, cozy, comfortable and really warm. All around great looking and functional. I absolutely Love this Parka!
I'm confused!
I've had this parka for over 2 years and totally love the fit and numerous other features. However, as time goes on, the down is shifting to the bottom of the jacket. There is nothing left in the shoulders but 2 layers of fabric. There are clumps of down around the bottom of the jacket where it has accumulated from other areas of the coat. I've tried washing and drying it a few times as recommended (tennis balls in the dryer, etc.), hanging it upside down, shaking it, etc. and I can't get the down back up the coat! Did I get a lemon or is this a design flaw?
So much to like!
I bought the Stretchdown Parka to replace my Stretchdown Hoodie, which was too big due to weight loss. I wasn’t sure I loved the look of the parka as much as the hoodie, but I love the following parka features: 1. The collar zips up high eliminating the need for a scarf. 2. Chest pocket - so handy for phones. Let’s normalize chest pockets in women’s jackets. 3. I love the matte fabric of Stretchdown. Looks better than shiny down. 4. The parka covers your butt for extra warmth. I live in MN so it helps.
Down doesn't stay in shoulders = cold spots.
I liked everything about this coat other then the down wouldn't stay in the top of the shoulder and I had to return it. It's not a super warm jacket which is fine, and at 32 degrees it was good other then cold spots in the shoulder. No amount of shaking the down into the should fixed it. The fit was good, I'm slender but an inverse triangle shape and jacket fit well. Like the fabric and hood. Everything but the cold spots.
Disappointing quality
I have had this for a few months now and have to say that the quality is disappointing. I have an older MH down coat that is so well made and has held up beautifully. The zipper is cheap, the seams are coming apart, the wind cuts right through it. The fabric is thin. I expect more from a high end outdoor brand. The only thing I love is how high up the jacket comes around the chin so you can keep your neck and face covered.
