Stretchy and Warm

I'm a climber on the Front Range of Colorado and I need gear that can keep up with rapidly changing weather conditions. I'm a medium and this puffy fits true to size with a bit of room for layering. They added a bottom zipper to this most recent version of the Stretchdown Hoody, which is a great improvement that allows access to a belay device on cold mornings at the crag. The 700 fill is nice and warm without being suffocating, and the big puffy hood fits over a helmet. The Stretchdown material allows full range of motion with no constriction around the underarms when you reach across your body. Good for belaying, camping, walking your dog, whatever!

Extremely poor design for longevity.

Was a wonderful, warm, cozy jacket until I washed it. After just one washing, because the design does not have closed cells, all the feathers clumped in spots, leaving other spots bare. I am just astounded that the designer didn’t think of that. It was a very expensive jacket. I’ve washed my Patagonia puffys over and over and they were fine. I will not buy this design again.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that your Stretchdownā„¢ Hoody has experienced down migration after washing. We would recommend placing your jacket in a dryer on a low heat with a few dryer/tennis balls to help break up those clumps and help migrate the down to the rest of the jacket. If this does not work, we would recommend reaching out to our warranty team for assistance. Stains easily, but fixable

I bought this jacket in the olive color. I too find that it stains incredibly easy and even on places that nothing spills on which I don't understand. Oil from my neck and face stains the collar as well. I have found however, that Dawn dish soap works pretty well. I just squirt a little to cover the spots, let it sit for bit and then put it in the wash on cool or cold with a little tide. (by the way, this works on any clothing that you spill grease or oil on). Comes clean every time. It is a pain in the butt to keep doing this, however I love the fit of the jacket (I am apple shape and I appreciate it not being so form fitting) and it's very light and still warm. Perfect for New England winter.

Color misrepresented

I'm a huge MH fan and already own two ghost whisperers and one stretch down parka. I fell in LOVE with this bright blue color and sized up to a medium for a bit more room as I wanted to wear this with bulky stuff underneath. The size and quality is as expected but the COLOR is definitely not. The website has "Outer Dark" as a brighter blue with a white logo. I received a navy jacket with a black logo. I'm not sure if I was sent the wrong one but I don't see anything similar on the website to what I actually received. Lovely jacket, just please note Outer Dark is very much a deep navy.

WORTH EVERY PENNY – QUALITY IS OUTSTANDING!

I volunteer at the animal shelter twice a week, walking shelter dogs for 3 hours every Saturday and Sunday. Every time I come home, I machine wash this jacket. That’s twice a week - 8 times a month - 40 washes in just one winter season. This is now my third winter wearing it to the animal shelter. Why am I saying this? Because after all those washes, it hasn’t lost its color or its shape!!! Some might think I’m crazy for wearing such a good jacket to an animal shelter. But for me, it’s about warmth and comfort - and I need both when I’m outside in the cold and constantly moving for 3 hours without a break. It hugs me like a cocoon and keeps all the cold out. The hood and neck closure design is excellent and truly protects my neck from brutal North Atlantic wind gusts. And it’s so comfortable - which proves that warm jackets don’t have to be heavy. On super cold days, I just add layers: merino wool long sleeve + either a light fleece or a light insulated vest. For size reference I am 5.2' tall, wight - 135 pounds - My Jacket is size M I’ve recommended this brand to all my friends and I just hope they never change a thing about the quality. I’m now saving up to buy their rain jacket, a hoodie, pants, and some sun-protective T-shirts for the warmer season!

Same and new issues

Reviewer K Riff and I are in the same boat! I also bought this after having to warrantee my first one due to the down all getting concentrated after washing, despite following directions. I have the same critiques of this one. It feels more cheaply made - less filling and courser material. Additionally, the SX previously fit my petite arm length, but now it’s too long. I’m keeping it because this is the 3rd item I’ve tried to buy with my warranty credit and I need a down jacket. I was hoping for some new down jackets to choose from this season, and not seeing any I like (down but with an urban ish look to it), I’m just giving up. I will try to keep this one cleaner, and do more to spot clean because I think it will get ruined by the washer again.

Must have, great for athletic outdoorsy activities

I am rock climber and mountaineer. I used this Womens Stretch Down Hoody for my recent hikes and climbs in Canyons of Utah. Since the days are short post fall, we need good warmth while backpacking, belaying and climbing. It provides real good insulation, thanks for 700 fill. It's slightly longer over the waist which is what I always needed from my puffy jacket. I am usually an S and this S fit is great. Can be used in addition with fleece or down vest if going for winter camping or adventure activities in colder temperatures. Best part is the design which considers all kinds of motion that we do in outdoor activities. This is a must take if you are going to climb or belay in chilly weather. It is durable, packability is great and hood is the best part.

My favorite down jacket

This is a fantastic active down jacket whether you're out climbing or just running errands around town. It's got all the features you want- fleece lined pockets, stretchy fabric, elastic cuffed wrists, double zippers; plus it's incredibly cozy. I love wearing it on cold mornings when I'm out guiding in the desert. I am in-between medium and large in MHW clothes so I got a large so it would be nice and roomy for layers, though I don't often need very many because it's so warm! Highly recommend this jacket!

Nice, but falling apart.

I bought this jacket a while back, and it was great at first. For the price, I thought it would be MUCH more durable. Unfortunately, after a 2-3 washes the feathers started to fall out and it has become very thin. Recently, the hood has also started to come apart. For the price I paid, I’m disappointed. The jacket isn’t the warmest either. The external material is nice, it doesn’t snag and has stayed intact. I really like the chest pocket and the inner pocket. You can make the waist smaller as well.

So durable!

I got this for climbing in the fall/winter and the durability exceeds my expectations. I boulder in it and haven't ripped it once. It can brush against pokey trees and branches, and still not a rip in sight. Impressed. It's also super stretchy so even with a couple of layers underneath, I still do'nt feel restricted.
