Don’t wait to buy this parka

I waited too long to buy this parka, using my Phantom jacket instead for several years. Yet the Phantom belay parka kept me so toasty camping on Mt. Rainier as well as belaying in 40+ mph wind gusts while mixed climbing. I love that it goes over my harness easily, and the second zip makes it so my booty stays warm and covered while I still have access to my belay loop. The material is also really hardy—I scraped it against some rough granite walls while climbing up a chimney, and no holes or anything. I usually wear a small but bought medium so I can fit it over a fully loaded harness and other layers.

My new favourite jacket!

I recently went on a 10 day winter expedition (living in the snow above 11,000ft the entire time) - this took place early March in the Colorado Rockies. This jacket kept me incredibly warm as well as being able to wear many layers underneath and still be able to zip it up completely! I would recommend this jacket to anyone who needs warmth for long periods of time in winter environments!

Like Wearing A Sleeping Bag

I bought this for my wife and she absolutely loves it. She says it's like wearing a sleeping bag. She normally wears a size small shirt, so we ordered a size medium jacket. It is big enough that it fits over all of the other gear she is wearing, no need to stop and remove layers in order to fit this one on. We look forward to putting it through it's paces next winter.

Warm jacket

Very warm jacket, perfect for mountaineering. The fit is roomy enough to fit layers underneath, but not too big.

This is my first piece of Mountain Hardwear equipment.

I'm 177cm tall and weigh 80kg. As an Asian man, men's sizes are unfortunately too long for me, so I had to choose a women's XL. As a protective garment for alpine climbing, it features a full-body box baffle construction to minimize cold spots, filled with 233g of goose down with a fill power of 860FP, far exceeding the stated 800FP. The parka fits surprisingly well, allowing for better layering, and the two-way zipper doesn't interfere with the use of a safety harness. It has an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio, and can even be used as a pillow inside a tent when packed away. I didn't feel cold even at -25°C (-13°F) at 16,404ft during a bivouac. It's an excellent outer layer for warmth, and great value for money. After comparing it to similar jackets like the Arc'teryx Alpha Parka and The North Face Summit L6, I chose this one as my main ice climbing gear. This is my first piece of Mountain Hardwear equipment.
