Great road feel
I’ve had the H3 (purchased from REI) for 7 months now as part of my New Year’s resolution to get back in shape after a decade. I went with Saris because I had a Fluid 2 previously that I loved the feel of and had read that was the H3’s target when unplugged. I signed up for SYSTM and have used the H3 in ERG mode and watched my ftp progress and my resolution being far surpassed as I now train 5 days per week (with at least 4 on the training before work) and just finished a 75-mile charity ride at > 17 mph with limited drafting opportunity. I highly recommend you pick one of these up!
Great Direct Drive Trainer
This trainer was bought at an excellent value as it was marked down 40%. Plays well with Zwift and other online training platforms. The Saris App was slightly buggy when initially installed on my phone—which is required if you want to have any resistance when not connected to an online training platform. Has all the axle adapters to run all quick release and thru-axle formats. The manual stated that the spacer required to run an 8/9/10 speed cassette was included, however, this was not the case. Much better road/tire feel and freewheeling than a standard “wheel-on” trainer. Have been using this for several months now without any problems.
Cheap Power and poorly designed cable
I have had my Saris H3 trainer for 1 week. The trainer itself has worked great while using with Zwift. However, I have had to order a 2nd power supply cable due to the thoughtless and honestly just plain bad design. The port for the power cable is on the side of the unit and sticks out and so is very easy to knock. There is no stabilization to protect the plug. And so all it took was a light knock to break the plug. For the trainer I would rate it a 5 but for the after thought power supply I would rate that a 1. My overall rating is 3 stars.
Excellent Trainer
This trainer is the bomb. The 20lb flywheel makes the ride almost road realistic. It comes with cassette and all the rear axle adaptors for almost any bike out there. It also comes with a built in handle so you can carry it anywhere unlike the Tacx models. Front wheel block is included too.
Wow, I'm really glad I took the plunge
I trusted REI to come through with a great entry-level smart training package and boy, did they. I was quickly set-up and exploring the world of Zwift. Now the winter doesn't seem as long or depressing and my fitness is sure to benefit greatly. It isn't drudgery. I look forward to it ..
Great Buy
Solid product, has everything you need to get started. Great value. Cassette gearing is a little low (big sprocket is 25T) for climbing, but can be swapped out.
