Great all around watch. Wish I bought Earlier!
I'll be honest. I have always been a Garmin user (since 2007) and I a couple months ago I just moved to this watch from a Garmin Forerunner 235. I used the 235 since 2016, training and running 2 marathons. It was great, but I wanted more Hiking / Outdoor features, without using 3rd party aps and widgets. fenix 6 has the built in features for hiking, running, and watersports. I am surprised how many trails are preloaded on the watch! Small parks around my house, to popular trails in Sedona, Az and Frisco, CO. Battery life has been great. I run daily (2-5 miles currently) and only need to charge my watch every couple weeks. Usually plugging it in while I am in the shower, or doing an activity a watch is not useful keeps it going.
6X Pro Solar works great
I ordered this when I saw the release announcement. I have owned the Fenix 3 Sapphire, and the Fenix 5X. Everything has worked well for me since receiving the 6x. I have noticed no issues with Heart rate or SpOx measurements. Garmin Pay, Amazon Music and connectivity to my power meter, Di2, heart rate strap, etc have all worked great also. While in REI to pick up the 6x I picked up the 66i InReach unit and the 6x connects to it and allows me to send preset texts to my family or an SOS from my wrist. I would recommend this to my friends.
Superb Watch- careful with Beacon
Amazing functionality, all the data I want easily accessible. Absolutely love it for tracking trail runs and ski tours. Weather apps are useful. Sleep, breathing, stress metrics informative. Couple notes worth mentioning- -I receive inconsistent heart rate spikes when my arm gets cold, usually after 90min+ during runs below 35f. -watch definitely interferes with avy beacon search when held in same hand. (Mammoth Barryvox) Beacon works fine when held in opposite hand. Makes me wonder if watch would interfere with me being found should I be buried with watch on top of beacon. I am going to test this.
Fantastic Watch
Very happy with this purchase! I upgraded from an old Instinct Tactical, I am very happy that I have. They have taken the features from that Instinct and pumped them up to 100! I enjoy the long battery life thus far, and the solar charging helps to extend that life out. I have to work out and stay in shape for my job so the PT tracking features that I was already used to are great to have. Its an expensive watch to be sure.....but I think that its worth it. As for long term life, my supervisor has owned the same watch for over 3 years and has held up well in that time. Her recommendation is what convinced me to go ahead and make this purchase.
Worth the price.
I received this as a gift for xmas. I thought that switching from a touch screen watch (casio wsd-20) to this would be a difficult learning curve but i was completely wrong. This watch is packed with so many features I haven't even scratched the surface of what it can do. I used it to track snowboarding this past weekend and it worked flawlessly. The only thing to be wary of is the solar glass isn't as strong as the sapphire glass and I scratched the face on my watch. Since it was so new Garmin was able to send me a new unit (for a fee of course) that arrived quickly. I highly recommend this watch for anyone that wants a outdoor watch that does everything.
Thank you for your review. Jenny
Sensors not working
Out of the box, the pulse of sensor didn’t work at all. After 2 days of updating, restarting and fixing the band, I still didn’t get a pulse ox read. Additionally, the HR sensor only worked about 30-40 % of the time. Was this due to faulty sensors or a software bug? Who knows, but for $1150, I want my product functioning as advertised. REI customer support was excellent (5 stars) and helped me return the item without issues.
Great watch, amazing battery life!
This watch is everything I hoped for; an upgrade from my Fenix 3 that lasts much longer and has more accurate data. It has all the activities under the sun and I love how easy it is to use. The addition of the HRM is very cool too, I used to avoid them because of how bulky they were but I forget that this has one. Only gripe is that there's no option for the Solar to also come with Sapphire glass; I understand that's probably due to efficiency of the panel, but the glass (although very resilient and tough!) That is does have isn't as strong and has scratched a tiny bit. Enough to bother my OCD but not enough to affect usage.
charging wire can be defective and REI doesn't
stand behind the sale. Bought this on March 15th, 2020. Watch is working fine but the charging cable is "loose" when hooked up so it is a pain in the neck to charge. REI used to stand behind everything they sold (a big reason why I became a member) but they are now saying that because the watch has GPS in it (even though that has nothing to do with the malfunction) they only support returns for 90 days. REI you've lost your way!!!
Fénix 6x pro solar replacing my Apple Watch!
I looked at and read reviews for several years about Garmin fénix watches. I finally bought the fénix 6x pro. I enjoy not needing to charge every day, being able to go out for all day hikes, bike rides, kayaking, sailing etc and not worry about my battery going dead before I complete my activity. My Garmin pairs beautifully with my iPhone for messages, call alerts etc. it is very easy to use and enjoy the different applications. I especially like having consistent data from sleeping to weight lifting, bicycling to sailing. It is awesome having so much good information that is easy to access and use with Garmin Connect.
Thank you for your review. Jenny
Love my Fenix(es)!
Ive owned several previous versions and this one doesn't disappoint either. Garmin is great about continually updating their software and new features/functions/optimizations are continually popping up. The only slightly disappointing thing about the solar version is that it doesn't notably seem to make a difference on the charge level. That said I should disclose that I run my watch on max power and haven't actually set it in the sun to see what sort of recharge I can get. I would hope that in an emergency I could put it in power saving mode and set it out to charge successfully.
