Great All-Around Backpack

I spent an embarrassing number of hours looking at backpack reviews online. I wanted something that could function at work, for travel, and for day hikes. I also wanted a bag that was made with recycled materials, and had a solid warranty. The Arcane checked every box. It's very durable but still looks 'professional', and is backed by the best warranty in the business. If the Arcane is on your radar I highly recommend it.

Older line was much superior in quality and design

I own the older grey version of this backpack, as well as the newer yellow version of this backpack (the one listed). To be honest, I loved the grey one. The whole backpack was very well constructed. The design was great - very minimalistic. The surface was this wax canvas covering and it was hard to get it dirty or wet. I carried it around during rain and the water rolled right off. The zippers felt very solid and the interior of the backpack was made of very high quality materials. The bottom of the backpack has a thicker material so that when you place it on the ground, you can easily clean it and it offers additional protection for your backpack. The straps were reinforced and made of a very high quality foam material that prevents it from deforming too much after much use. I had it for about 1 year and used it daily; it still looks really new. It felt indestructible. Meanwhile, I took the newer yellow backpack on a two-week Europe trip and it looks absolutely destroyed. The exterior surface of the backpack is made up of a new type of material and it's no longer waterproof. It felt cheap, thin, and much more flimsy. They got rid of the bottom protective layer of the backpack that was present in the old version so it's sketch to lay your backpack on gravel-ed ground. The zippers were of the cheaper version and did not zip up as easily as the older version. The straps were of a cheaper version too; they reduced the foam that was in it so it feels weak. The interior is OK, but again, looks and feels very cheap. I'm sad they are discontinuing the older line of the Arcane series. It seems that they have forgone quality to replace it with more colorful aesthetics, which I don't think is worth it IMO. If they ever bring back the older grey version, I'm definitely snagging another one.

A simple, nice design and lightweight backpack

I've been using this backpack for close to 2 months. It's a great and stylish model. I've been looking to find a simple, lightweight & slim backpack for office and urban commuting and without too much of sporty external accessories. I'd particularly like the water bottle mesh design . It won't easily loose, it could fit my 500 ml water bottle and the bottle is not visible from outside. Overall it's a great and comfortable backpack. One of the cons is the loose laptop sleeve. When I carry my laptop, I can feel the laptop that keep shuffling to my back while I'm walking. I need to put some files inside the sleeve therefore it could hold the laptop from shuffling. It would be good if Osprey could add laptop sleeve fastener inside.

Understated quality

At first glance, this backpack looks smart but may seem a bit basic. But it has loads of capacity with neat. interior compartments for laptop and other devices and plenty of space for everything else. The really clever thing is it compresses itself without straps etc so it looks and feels more compact and clings to your body rather than constantly sliding about or slipping off your shoulder. I really like the concealed exterior water bottle pouch. Only gripe is that a quick release clip on the right shoulder strap is actually very difficult to use and so not quick or easy. Overall, this is great for my city commutes and work meetings.

Not great when weighed down

I've been using this bag for the past half year now. While it definitely looks amazing and has protected my things in even the worst storms, it has a fatal flaw I can't get over. When the bag is weighed down (laptop + iPad + notepad), the backing will bend so that only the bottom of the backpack will rest on your back. 90% of the bag will be supported by this point, such that all the weight is focused on just one point of your back. It induces a ton of back pain and no adjustment of the straps can fix it. I really wanted to love this bag and I'm curious as to how people are avoiding this issue. Additionally, without putting some other kind of item in the laptop pouch (like a notebook), you will feel the laptop bouncing against your back as you walk. Not sure if this is an issue for beefier laptops, but considering this bag is also sold by Apple, I'd expect it to be compatible with an ordinary MacBook. This is very annoying and likely could've been fixed if there was a compression strap included. Unfortunately, the added weight of a laptop case or some other padding material is something you'll have to take into account if you want to avoid this issue. Regardless, the bag itself has been through a lot, has protected my items, and has remained perfectly durable throughout its life. I love the giant YKK zippers and in my experience, it is well built -- no loose threads or damaged fabric even though I am quite rough with my gear. Additionally, the Osprey warranty is second to none -- while I will be moving on to another bag, I'll still occasionally use this one since it does look really sleek. But I can't recommend it long-term.

This backpack is sturdy and

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This backpack is sturdy and well made. The zippers are heavy duty and look as though they will not jam or break like other packs I have owned. I like that the zipper on the external pocket is covered/concealed so that if someone tries to unzip it while you are wearing you will definitely know. I got caught in a heavy downpour yesterday and it kept the contents dry. This brand came highly recommended and though I have only had it a week, I am very happy with it.

Good EDC Backpack

I was looking for an EDC backpack with good back support and decent size, after a lot of research this Osprey one kept coming up, so decided to purchase! It’s a great backpack, very simple yet functional. The hidden water bottle pocket is a nifty feature. I do wish there was a zip/pocket on the back of the bag for laptop access/hidden storage for important items - I think that’s the only feature I’d like to add to this bag, otherwise would recommend!

Pleasantly surprised — Great Day Bag

I was worried when I read the 2 star review, but after purchasing I’m pleasantly surprised. I use this bag for commuting to work, and have also used it for day hikes and 1-2 day overnight trips to visit family. I don’t really have any complaints. Great quality materials/craftsmanship and it’s backed by Osprey’s warranty.

Super soft material I love

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Super soft material I love that about the arcane series! It makes the bag pliable so you can adjust the items to fit. I only wish the interior was made of lighter colored material to make it easy to see stuff.
