Upon looking at the backpack when it came in the mail, I was very disappointed in three things. One; the design of the water bottle holder. It does not open from the top which prevents you from putting a tall bottle in it. I also would have liked to see one on each side instead of just one. Two; lack of chest strap and waist strap. I understand that this is a school/book bag, but coming from Osprey I would expect at least a chest strap to make the bag more usable for a hike. Three; the laptop sleeve, while large enough, is only accessible from the side. This is more nitpicky but it still bothered me and seemed avoidable.
I really wanted to love this backpack, but it has a major design flaw. The backpack straps are attached to another piece of fabric that stretches across the top of the bag, not directly to the bag itself. As a result, the extra fabric/straps dig into your neck and shoulders when empty and fully loaded. If you loosen the bag, the extra fabric will lay flat, but the back of the backpack itself doesn't lie against your back. Super disappointed. I'm a relatively lean person (5'10, 140lbs), so maybe someone with a bigger upper body wouldn't have this issue, but I don't understand why they didn't attach the straps directly to the bag like their other packs. Sending back.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Excellent I have no complaints. I love everything your company makes and does thank you.
The bag is excellent quality and I love the laptop department separately at the back. The bag holds it's shape well when basically empty which makes it look great and still stylish when using it for just a few work things. Then when loading it up if I happen to go to the shops then backpack can carry lots and not make me look like a turtle (it's length means it doesn't bulge massively outwards). I will say that I am proportionally more torso and add this to being 6ft5 so others may find the bag to be a bit too large.
I searched for weeks trying to decide on a backpack for work that was a nice colour, durable and fit all of my work gear and extras. I made the leap and this bag has delivered! Laptop, full size keyboard, mouse, headset, chargers, notepad, pens and lunch all fit in with space leftover (enough for an overnight stay!). Love it and my back appreciates it so much more than my biggest handbag crammed. The multiple sections mean I can give each item a home and don’t have to rummage.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am absolutely obsessed with this backpack. I love hour it keeps it form even when there isn’t smudging in it. I love how many compartments that it has throughout the pack. I have had the backpack for about a month and I have packed a lot in it and the quality of the the material makes it feel like everything is going to hold for a long time. The straps are the softest straps out of all my bags. Looking forward to this being my daily bag for years to come.
The Osprey Arcane XL is a bag that does it all. It works as a bag for commuting to the office carrying laptop and tech, and works equally well out on the trails in the countryside as a day hike bag. All of the compartments have their own volume, so if you stuff one compartment full, the other compartments remain useable, which isn't the case on a lot of backpacks. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a "works for everything" backpack.
Great pack, excellent quality as expected- but as a larger guy I wish the straps were a little longer because they're maxed out all the way, fully extended in length and it still rides a little high. So if you're a tall broader shouldered football player shaped guy, just be prepared. I use it for business travel, and its great since it's less outdoorsy looking than some other osprey packs, and better looking than most business-travel packs.
This is an okay pack while it lasts. The interior pockets and features could be improved as they’re quite limited, but overall works well as a day to day pack. Unfortunately mine started to degrade after a year of usage - circa 3 days per week in that time for a commute - nothing significant. The material which comprises the back frays at the bottom quite easily, damaging the overall integrity. Would avoid.
Love this bag! Perfect size as a daily carry backpack; sleek; doesn't stand out as being too outdoorsy - overall, it's a great alternative to carrying a purse. Plus, I am able to carry the essentials that are sometimes too large for a small sling. My only complaint is that the color is not black but more of a dusky, charcoal grey. If Osprey made it in "real" black, I would order a new bag!
