Petite Fit Fantastic
I'm 5'3 3/4" (yes, every 1/4" counts) and weigh 122 with an athletic (not model) tone. These are the first pants in YEARS that fit well, in all the right places, without having to be hemmed, rolled, cuffed, or otherwise. And as they fit so wonderfully well, I worked diligently in them outside, inside and even out shopping. The comfort of the fabric is better than denim, less flexible than blends, yet sturdy enough for fall chores outside. I am so pleased with the comfort, fit and durability, especially given the significant challenges I often face due to my petite/fun size stature, that I look forward to purchasing other pairs.
Initially wonderful, then reality hit!
As a women who works outside most days, I loved these pants for the first year I had them. My review is a 2, though, as these pants that are designed for durability and ruggedness split down the back in only a matter of 14 months. The split occurred just by bending down, and the pants were not too tight on me. For the price and supposed quality of the product, I was shocked that this already happened. When I submitted the pants to Dovetail’s warranty, they shared that they do not cover damage past the first year. I had originally been so excited to find a pair of pants that fit me well and functioned for my work outside, but have been very disappointed to find that my nearly $100 pant purchase only lasted for a short time and wasn’t covered. I hope others don’t experience the same issue.
Indestructible AND a great fit
When I first unpacked these pants, I was skeptical. That skepticism lasted the ten seconds it took me to put them on. These pants are amazing - not only is the fit perfect for me, but they're very flattering as well. They have more than enough pockets, and the pockets are deep - not those pockets that only fit half the length of your fingers. The fabric is thicker than jeans or other workwear brands and I think it would take a lot for any damage to occur. Thick, solid seams all around, good quality zipper and overall indestructible. These pants will last forever, and I can't wait to wear them that long. I highly recommend them.
These are about 6” short of a size 22W
I wear a size 18/20 consistently across brands. Was excited to see a new brand offering a plus size so I ordered. Knowing brands carried by REI (other than my main squeeze Columbia) tend to run small for larger women, I ordered a size up. Dovetail had the audacity to shorten the waist of a size 22W about 6”. There was no chance these would fit. Get a real plus size pattern and measurements, and try again.
Solid material, great shape
I have a curvy/athletic build (5'4", 135 lbs), and I found that these run slightly small in the waist and butt compared to stretchier jean-sizing (which wasn't too surprising given that the material is much sturdier/less stretchy). The most impressive thing about the pants is the number and location of the pockets, which I found to be exceptional, particularly for women's pants. The material is truly durable and well-made, with just enough give to make them comfortable for doing work without taking away from them feeling solid.
The perfect pants!
I ordered these pants for my son, who is transitioning. He has a tough time finding men's pants that fit his small body frame (5'3", 115 pounds) and was willing to try these Dovetail utility pants. He works two jobs and found them to work for both diverse positions that require him to dress nice/casual. He works fulltime outside with planes at the airport and part-time in retail. Initially, my son was concerned about the small snaps on the pants, which he thought would be cold on his skin, but they were not. The pants were perfect for keeping him warm from the elements of wind, snow, and rain while fitting the dress code. At both of his jobs, he received compliments and inquiries to where he purchased his pants. Dovetail pants can withstand the physical requirements and at the same time look profession. The only issue he came across was the pants' inseam shrunk about an inch after washing them a few times. I highly recommend these pants, and I definitely will buy my son another pair soon (longer inseam) for his birthday.
Hard Working
These are not disco pants! If you are a barn girl, trades person or Goth, these are the pants for you. I must admit didn’t like them when I first opened the bag. Too heavy, tight and low riding for me. Washed them and wore them several times with better results. Well-crafted and stitched. Double panel on the thighs and knees. Passed the squat and briar test. Hands were not happy with one of those, not having protection. Wear them, don’t wash, and comfort is better. They sat lower than I liked, but did not feel like falling off my posterior. Attributed the tightness to turkey, stuffing, beer, double stitching and rivets. Not recommend for long travels in the car. Color is great for hiding dirt.
Super GREAT pants
These pants fit. There's not an enormous gap between my back and the waistband which is highly unusual. The thighs are the right size. Not too baggy, not to tight. The gusseted crotch is amazing. Rather than having the thickest seam on the entire in the most binding part of my body, there's this gusseted seam that is in no way binding. I want all my pants to have a gusseted crotch seam now. The knees are perfectly designed and are roomy enough to move with ease. There's a pocket for every possible need. These are great pants to work in. I can think about work, not about the pants not working for me.
Credible women’s workwear
These BRITT UTILITY in natural stretch canvas were the 1st DOVETAIL pants I was able to get my hands on over a year ago & are still wearing strong as they’ve held up to serious use. - yet so comfortable . They clearly were designed for real outdoor work. Other ”comparable” pants from the big-name manufacturers just don’t have the level of quality materials & stitching put into the Britt Utility. These pants actually give me a power boost when I wear them. Exciting to hear about this small company in Oregon and its female creation story.
super small
They feel awesome....but these run insanely small. I am normally like a 20-22w currently in bottoms. I read the other reviews and sized up to the biggest size 24w. I could not even get them fully up. Sadly these will have to go back. really wish they could have worked
