Good light, pain to maintain
Really want to like this more. Bright light, good beam, grips bars well. But batteries don't last more than 2 rides. The main problem, and it's a giant pain, is installing/replacing batteries. You can't tell which ends go where and the tiny micro-chart inside is useless. And good luck figuring out the correct placement when screwing the connector mount back on. Takes easily 6-10 attempts to swap batteries. Truly terrible design. Better just to spring for a solar/rechargable light.
A Glorified Flashlight
This light is more annoying than useful. The flimsy strap does not grip the handlebar well enough to prevent the light from rotating when going over rough pavement. I find myself constantly adjusting the position of the light. Also, the beam of the light is more rounded and it is more like strapping a flashlight to your handlebars rather than a headlight. I have used a Cygolite 520 until the lithium battery died and it is a much better product in all aspects of performance. While I will probably keep this light, it will be in my bike bag for emergencies for when the charge runs out on my Cygolite.
Keep looking
I bought this for bike commuting and was at REI without being able to see reviews. I have been using this for a month now and this light is not cutting it. I was constantly adjusting the position because as I went over bumps it was moving. Now I have two zip ties across the light to actually secure it from moving ever 2 minutes!! The light is not super bright, but luckily I am on streets with some lighting. If it was darker I would not feel like this light is reliable and would go with higher than 500 lumens for the front vs just 120. If you just need a daytime light or on a super tight budget this is the flashlight for you. Otherwise invest in a better light for your own safety and your sanity. I know what I am getting for Christmas a different light to replace this one!
Works as daytime light, but short battery life
Attaches and works fine, but compared to my previous light, which had two double A batteries, life is very short. Two AA's would last months (riding about 5 hours per week). I have to put new batteries (3 AAA) in this every 2-3 weeks, 10-15 hours I'd guess.
Switch sticks or doesn't work at all
By Joseph from St. Petersburg, Florida on 7/8/2019 Your Rating: 1 stars Headline: I will never buy this light again. It is garbage. Lights are simple, this one is simply garbage, a waste of money and time.
Great battery life on Rechargeable AAA batteries
I recently purchased the Ion 120 light, so I can't speak to the various durability concerns in the reviews here. I would say that replacing the batteries and screwing on the cap has not been a problem for me. The case, while plastic, does appear to be well-constructed. The light pattern is reasonably wide -- especially with the red side-windows. I ran a battery-life test with RECHARGEABLE AAA batteries. I had the light on its flash mode for 36 hours, and it was still going strong. I ended the test at that point, because this is way beyond what I need. About rechargeable AAAs: You want to get batteries that are equivalent to the Sanyo/Panasonic "Eneloop" NiMH batteries. (Amazon Basic sells an equivalent.) These are FAR superior to all other brands. Unlike all others, Eneloops hold a full charge for many months (very low self-discharge). So it's entirely feasible to carry spares, if you need INSANE run time. That's something you can't easily do with the rechargeable light units that have a permanently-installed battery. And when a battery starts to fail (won't hold a charge), you only have to discard the AAA, vs. tossing the whole light. These are NiMH batteries, so heavier (for a given capacity) than Lithium. So, if you are counting your ounces, you probably want to go with a different unit. Eneloops are very handy for all AA and AAA uses around the house and on your bike. It's nice to have a fully-interchangeable solution. I would recommend investing in a high-quality computerized charger (~$70), which will (in theory) prolong the life of the batteries (claimed to be about 2,000 charge cycles). After 10+ years, I have yet to discard an Eneloop. NOT SO for brands like Energizer and Duracell, which die routinely and have a high self-discharge rate.
Meets Our Needs Nicely
A decent inexpensive light that allows my wife and I to always be seen during cloudy early morning rides on wooded curvy sections of bike trail. We don't need it to light up the trail, so we only use the flashing mode, which is quite bright and makes us highly visible to oncoming riders & trail maintenance vehicles. Would be 5 stars, but the mount uses 2 stretchy rubber-like bands that I needed to put in it's tightest position to maintain orientation on our 1" bars, and I fear it will tear prematurely. It still sometimes slips on my wife's bars and needs frequent realignment. That could be improved. Would also be better if the switch was directly over the mount, so it could be switched with a single finger or thumb; as designed, a finger also must be underneath, to prevent the downward push also rotating the light on the bars. Finally, you'd be wise to replace the batteries immediately. The ones we got lasted about 6 and 8 hours on the flash setting, not close to the 52 hours advertised. I replaced them with rechargeable Eneloops; lithiums would be good, too, as they work well in low temps and never leak. Both are worth the increased price over alkalines.
Falls, breaks
The plastic is far too thin. If you drop your light from a moderate height, say putting it on or off your bike, it will break.
Worst bike light ever built.
The light doesn’t have enough room to screw the bulb back in. It’s a real piece of ____ honestly. Very frustrating piece of equipment to have purchased. Bought today plan to return tonight. It’s clear this is the cheap model from a good company intended for you to buy their more expensive, real products.
Pretty good for the price
Pretty good for the price, I've got fairly good night vision so I did this more out of safety than necessity, but having different light levels and the option to make it blink is very helpful. Overall pretty solid, and it stays in place too. 4/5
