Terrible watch - Do Not Buy!
I've had this watch about eight months and have had nothing but problems with the GPS function of this watch. It constantly drops the signal and will quit recording my location mid run. Garmin sent me a replacement watch after the first three months, but the replacement does the same thing. Garmin support constantly blames the issue on my watch needing an update, but I'll still have these same issues after I update. Also, the updates make no reference to GPS fixes, which leads me to believe this is a design issue. I have two other Forerunners and never had these types of issues. This watch is terrible and I would not recommend it at all.
Ear bud connectivity issues
I bought this watch for my wife who is a dedicated runner looking to ditch her apple devices while running but still have music and keeping her key running performance indicators easy to find while working out. Long story short, great watch features but it is not compatible with Apple airbuds nor another set of bluetooth ear buds that she typically runs with...as in they don't connect at all (and if they do, Garmin admits that they will not work properly). Really disappointed and will be returning the watch today. Be sure your earbuds are compatible with this watch before buying it or be prepared to buy new earbuds too (and most of Garmin's list of "supported earbuds" l have pretty bad reviews).
Works sometimes
I owned several garmin products the 645 music is the worst watch I’ve ever owned. Music Bluetooth sync fails constantly, end up running without music most of time. The GPS works sometimes, takes forever to sync. I’ve factory reset the watch. I’ve spent countless hours trying to get this watch to work properly it never does. If you want to listen to music when you run. Get an iwatch. Garmin needs to stop manufacturing countless version of the basically the same watch, the line up is insane, just make a half dozen that actual function like they promise and work a 100% of the time.
Great with one small catch
This is a great watch, but I spent HOURS trying to figure out why when I copied music over from itunes it would either not show or the watch would spin endlessly 'updating music library'. The issue is it doesn't deal with AAC files (like from itunes) well at all. I finally converted all of those files to mp3 and the watch has been working flawlessly. I have these paired with powerbeats 3 and have had no skips or music hiccups on a 6.5 mile run.
Don't buy the music version
I own the 645m and would HIGHLY recommend that people DO NOT BUY the music version. Garmin over Fitbit any day but the MUSIC will cause you so much frustration and headaches. I was unable to transfer 90% of my music without converting to MP3 which took forever, then, it didn't work. The connect app is buggy and crashes, and then when it does work, it won't see your watch or will see it but won't move your music over. Just stick to the plain 645 (non music) and use the phone connect app for all your run/workout stats.
Bluetooth Problem
I have a Garmin Fenix 3. Was excited about this watch as it has all the features of the Fenix 3 plus wrist HR monitoring and MUSIC. Enough to justify the upgrade. Really like the watch form factor, the interface and the bright screen. On-board music was the real reason for me to upgrade. No carrying my phone for music during workouts is a huge benefit. Unfortunately, I could not get the Bluetooth connection to perform consistently with my Apple Airpods. Was able to connect initially, but had drop-offs. Later could not connect them at all. I can't afford to buy different wireless earbuds, plus a $450 watch should certainly work with any earbuds, especially those as popular as Airpods. Learned after the fact via Garmin forums that I'm not the only one who experiences this. So after a week, I had to return it. Hoping the bluetooth issue can be fixed in the future on this watch or perhaps the Fenix 6.
never left behind on a run
Bought it when it was one of a few watches with music on-board. Music experience is great, and can hold quite a lot with the onboard memory. GPS can be slow at times to pickup, sometimes mid run will alert it acquired a signal. Live in a pretty cloudy area. Basic as far as smart functionalities go. Is nice to have just phone alerts and not another screen to look at. Running features are enough for my level of running, just like to keep track of pace, distance, and overall historical data. Watch face customization is nice, but the apps feel outdated and cumbersome. The bands aren't that durable, I've had to replace a few times since buying.
I had the 235 before this which served me just fine. The 645 was a nice upgrade. I feel as though the battery life is what to be expected with the music feature, and when not using the music it lasts me at least all week. The GPS connects super fast almost anywhere I am, which is something that was really taking awhile with my old 235. The only complaint I have is it sometimes struggles with bluetooth connectivity, both to my phone and the headphones I have paired with it. This isn't really enough of an issue to cause major problems, just slightly annoying when I'm trying to go run and it won't connect to my headphones. Still recommend it though.
A great watch
Prior to getting the Forerunner 645, I had the Vivoactive, so this watch is a major upgrade with all it's features. The watch feels very lightweight on your wrist. I love that music can be loaded into the watch--the sound is a bit iffy when you're moving around but for the most part, the podcast I listened to throughout my run sounded good. The ability to customize the watch through watch faces and different widgets is nice. I especially like the specific ways it tracks your fitness, through your VO2 max, race time predictions, etc. That has been really helpful with my training. Overall, this is an awesome watch and I'm really happy with the product.
Great GPS watch but problems in Singapore
I bought this one after the 620 and the 630 Forerunners previously and it's a great development of that range. The non-touch screen is definitely better than the 630 approach (though I loved that at the time). Screen is also really bright. Problem is that neither Garmin Pay or the music service are well-supported in Singapore. Garmin Pay only with OCBC bank and music only by copying music files across (does anyone have "music files"these days?) with no streaming services supported. iHeartRadio app not available in Singapore, for example. No Spotify or even Deezer. Hopefully in time these things will change as Garmin seems to be building its presence here.
