The tent was excellent for the first year. Handled all kinds of weather, including rain and a bit of snow all over California and Utah (including Mount Whitney twice). Very roomy too. It was important for me that it is light because I backpack a lot. Unfortunately it could not handle the winds down in Patagonia and now the poles are all kinds of crooked. I was gonna try to see if BA would fix it for me but it got stolen in South America before I could try. I recommend this tent for mild to slightly rougher conditions, but nothing more.
This was my first ever primo tent, and I was super excited to get it as a Christmas present ($350!). I had been rocking the $30 Wal-Mart Coleman special than weighed 15 lbs for 15 years. This tent broke on its second trip. When setting it up, a pole snapped. Then, when opening a zipper, the zipper came off. I should mention that I never snapped a pole or broke a zipper in 15 years with my cheap, ugly Coleman tent, and I used it HUNDREDS of times. I thought for sure Big Agnes would be happy to repair this since it's brand new.....no, not covered. If you want to shell out big bucks for a light tent, get one that will last, not this one.
Best tent ever. Spent 1 year backpacking with the girlfriend and it kept us warm, cool, protected & safe. It excelled in cold mountains, on the beach, in rain and everything we threw at it. Towards the end on the trip someone knifed one of the mesh screens but we were able to find some mesh and has a local seamstress sew it up. When we got home we contacted BA and they sent us a replacement tent!! Great customer service!!
I bought a Big Agnes Copper Spur for a lot of money. I thought I got the best of the best, until it got holes in the 'windows' after the first time using it. The doors either fold in or out of the tent from the bottom which is a huge flaw in this tent. It gets stepped on going in and out of the tent if you don't roll it up every time. I sent it in to get it repaired since it's supposed to be a lifetime warranty and they literally cut squares out of the window to 'patch' it. Not that looks matter but it looks terrible and overall I'm not happy with how much I spent to have it rip in multiple places the first time I used it.
My only regret is that I didn't purchase this tent earlier. I've had my Copper Spur UL2 for two years and camped in Joshua Tree, the Smokies, Cumberland Island, Shawnee National forest and local state parks. Its a great 3 season tent. Light to pack with and so easy to set up. I've stayed in it in temperatures in the 30s and it held in heat just fine. I got caught in a big storm front with straight line winds that took trees down around me, but the tent held up well (I'm glad that I had actually taken the time to stake it properly). I see the benefit of the HV model, but I'm perfectly content with the classic
Nice, light 2 person tent. However we were We were caught in a dust storm at Guadalupe, TX. 40mph sustained winds with 60mph gusts. Dust blew up under the fly and through the see-through mesh like an open window. We woke up covered in a quarter inch of fine dust. Our faces were covered. Who knows how much we "ate"! All mesh top tents are likely susceptible to this. The zippers are quite small and fiddly. Fly material catches easily in them. Big Agnes repaired a tear in the mesh for me which was nice. Fine tent for most of the US except areas prone to dust storms (TX,AZ)
I bought my big agnes copper spur about 2.5 years ago. Since then, I've backpacked or camped about twice per year and wanted to write a review after this last trip to Frozen Head State Park in TN. We hiked out and camped with a decent sized group, and one night a storm rolled through with strong winds, rain, ice and snow, and this tent handled all of it. No other tent on the trip (except another big agnes 1 person) stayed dry, everyone else woke up wet, cold and miserable. This tent is light and excellent for backpacking, but sturdy enough to handle most common weather scenarios. One nice touch is the interior storage-- our tent has multiple triangle pockets that are excellent for holding phones. On this last trip, we were able to use the flashlights on our phones with the mesh to create a well-lit tent after my headlamp died. It's an easy tent to set up and take down, easy to clean and dries out very fast. Can't say enough great things about this tent, zero complaints
Great Product! This is my 1st backpacking tent in over 20 years and it is very easy to set up, packed and unpacked well, and has a ridiculous amount of head room. I took my 12 year old out camping for the 1st time and there is plenty of room for two people.
We picked this up during a cross country bicycle trip. We used it regularly for the remaining 2 months of that trip and it was flawless. Relatively spacious for two adults (emphasis on relatively).Packs nicely and weight is acceptable. And two doors are a MUST. Never had an issue with rain coming in. Sand migrated in one particularly windy night. Six years on and I plan on taking it again on a x country bike trip. It's that good!. Four stars because the zippers are beginning to fail.
The Copper Spur is exactly what I was looking for. An extremely lightweight backpacking tent that doesn't sacrifice comfort and convenience for weight. With having two side doors, two vestibules, and interior features that come with the tent like built in storage, you really can't find a tent this lightweight! Anything else I've tried this close in weight either isn't as sturdy, or is waaay too tight. I'm 6'4" and fit in this thing with just enough room to spare. I'v never felt crammed when sharing this with a fellow backpacker, but mostly carry it as my one man tent so I have extra room when the weather turns crazy at high altitude backpacking up in the mountains. It's seen high winds, days of consistent rain, hail, unexpected snow, basically everything. I love that I can always trust it to keep me safe and dry. I never worry about getting wet, or the tent collapsing from strong winds and bad weather. Gives a lot of peace of mind in that regard. The thing is bomb proof! Even after having this tent for years, there still hasn't been any tent I've seen that could convince me to part with the Copper Spur.
